Both Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen are looking to return to winning ways following disappointing results last weekend. The two teams would have been relatively happy with their starts to the season before then.

Borussia Dortmund Preview – Can Dortmund bounce back from dropping points last weekend?

Dortmund surrendered top spot in the Bundesliga last weekend following a 2-2 draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt. In what was a difficult looking game, it appeared that they had managed to negotiate it and taking three points home with it, only to concede very late on. It was the second away game in a row where they have dropped points, following a surprise 3-1 defeat away to Union Berlin at the end of August. It once again highlights the vulnerability of Dortmund away from home which was so often their undoing last season and a key reason why they threw the title away. Lucien Favre clearly has a way he wishes to play but opposition teams have been able to counter that. Despite dropping five points in their last two away games they remain just three points behind leaders RB Leipzig.

Heading into Saturday’s home game with Werder it’s perfectly clear where Dortmund’s weakness lies. Five games into the season and Favre’s men already conceded seven goals. Considering they are yet to face either of their two rivals it’s clearly a worry for them. As alluded to above, it’s their away from which is the biggest concern with six goals conceded in two games. The picture is more positive at home, though, where they have scored nine and conceded just one in their first two games.

Werder Bremen Preview – Will Werder return to form after last weekend’s home defeat to RB Leipzig?

It was one of their best seasons in recent times and there have already been some positive signs but also a few setbacks for Werder in this campaign. Last weekend’s 3-0 loss at home to RB Leipzig was certainly in the latter campaign. Although Leipzig appear to be capable of mounting a title challenge this season, any heavy loss at home is going to be disappointing. That’s especially the case for Werder who had come into the game on the back of two good wins. A home win against Augsburg and away to newly promoted Union Berlin had got their season on track having lost their first two matches of the new campaign. Those defeats, against Fortuna Dusseldorf and Hoffenheim, highlighted similar defensive problems to their next opponents where they conceded six goals in two matches.

Only two teams have conceded more goals then Werder Bremen after five games. Florian Kohfeldt’s men have shipped 12 goals aready. Mainz and Paderborn, who occupy the bottom two places, are the only teams to have a worse record at this stage. Traveling to a Dortmund side who are averaging three goals a game is hardly the sort of match that would inspire confidence their defence can stand up to the challenge.

Key-Facts – Borussia Dormund v Werder Bremen

Borussia Dortmund v Werder Bremen Betting Advice

It would have been a long week for both these teams following disappointment results last time out. Dortmund will be pleased they’re returning home where they have been so dominant in their first couple of games. Werder will know the challenge they’re up against and seen what their opponents have done to both Bayer Leverkusen and Augsburg in the early weeks of the season.

On the face if it this looks like being a game full of goals. No team in the league have an higher  goals per game average than Dortmund’s which sits at 4.40. Werder’s is a mere 4.00 but it’s apparent than both teams are better going forward than defending. There’s also a strong trend for goals in this fixture in recent times. The three matches last season (one in the cup) seen a total of 13 scored and the last 12 have all had both teams scoring.

Dortmund are very good at home and should have enough to win the game. To add a bit of extra value, however, combine it with both teams to score.
