Borussia Dortmund Preview – Will Dortmund make it five straight wins and go top of the table outright?

The 3-1 defeat to Lazio in the Champions League needed a big response and to be fair to Lucien Favre and his players, they’ve done that. It’s not dramatic to suggest that their season could go either way at that point despite it being so early in the season. Dortmund have put together four wins since that loss and perhaps more importantly they have kept clean sheets in each of them.

There’s no question this team has all the talent in attach to trouble anybody but their failings in defence have been there for the entirety of Favre’s tenure and the reason why they have not won anything.

Bayern Munich Preview – Are Bayern set to continue their dominance and repeat their win here back in May?

Bayern were not at their best when disposing Salzburg in the Champions League but still won 6-2 away from home. That’s the standard this team are at that even when they’re not playing well they are still far too good for teams. Hans Flick will be looking for his team to be sharper and better from the beginning tomorrow, however, in what is their hardest domestic game of the season.

Flick will be delighted that his team have recovered from the surprising 4-1 loss away to Hoffenheim earlier in the season. That remains their only league defeat of 2020 and it would be no surprise if it remains that way come the end of the year.

The numbers that this Bayern team continue to put up are astonishing. They’ve scored 44 goals in 12 games at an average of over 3.5. Robert Lewandowski leads them with 12 of his own but his ably backed up with regular contributions from Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane. Whoever lines up in those attacking positions tomorrow will be hugely threatening.

As well as being Bayern’s only league defeat in 2020, the loss to Hoffenheim is also the only time out their last 21 away games in all competitions they have failed to win.

Both teams are in excellent form just now but the pressure is very much on the home team. They have to prove they can beat their opponents and become a genuine title contender. At the prices, I’m willing to take a chance of them doing that at home and moving to the top of the table.
