With leaders Bayern losing at home on Friday night, Marco Rose’s men knew they could cut the gap on them to six points if they could get a victory away to Eintracht Frankfurt the following day. Last weekend was a rare match where Erling Haaland didn’t score but he was still eventual and if Dortmund are to stay near Bayern, then he will have to have a hugely impactful second half of the season.

The one frustration for Christian Streich (who celebrated 10 years in charge of the club last month) is that they aren’t sitting third. Freiburg could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to struggling Arminia Bielefeld.

They have to get over that disappointment with one of the hardest games of the season. Any result here would be a bonus but they have beaten big teams already this season, including Dortmund. Freiburg have also beaten Wolfsburg, Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach.
