Mainz Preview – Can Mainz avoid heavy defeat?
Mainz continue to flirt with the relegation zone in the Bundesliga as their recent but rare success in the shape of a 2-0 win away from home at Eintracht Frankfurt was brought to an abrupt end with their weekend 1-0 loss at home to Augsburg.
Although Mainz have managed to register just one win from their previous seven matches overall in the German top flight, the visitors still sit just above the bottom three and hold a three-point cushion over third from bottom club, Fortuna Dusseldorf.
However, Mainz’s current situation could change very quickly come Wednesday night as they face the daunting prospect of an in-form and dominant Dortmund outfit, although mainz are unbeaten in their last three matches away from home, having picked up points in draws at Cologne and Union Berlin as well as beating Frankfurt 2-0.
