Botafogo Preview – Can Botafogo break drought?
Although Wednesday night’s hosts, Botafogo, have suffered just two defeats so far in this new Brazilian top flight season, they’ve also managed to collect just the one win as they’ve become the ‘draw specialists’ in Serie A, drawing no fewer than eight of their 11 matches played to date.
Botafogo’s one success so far this term came in the shape of a 2-1 home win against Atletico Mineiro although their two defeats were also inflicted upon them on home turf at their Estádio Nilton Santos with losses to 2nd placed Internacional and 5th placed Vasco da Gama.
However, Botafogo now have a golden opportunity to convert one into three points when they play host to bottom club Bahia who have yet to win a match on their travels so far in this Serie A season, and the hosts won the previous meeting at home against Bahia, 3-2 back in May last year.
Bahia Preview – Can Bahia end losing slump?
Bahia started the new Brazilian Serie A season in positive fashion as the visitors recorded back-to-back wins against Coritiba and Bragantino in 1-0 and 2-1 wins respectively, but they’ve subsequently struggled and their form has seen a dramatic decline since.
It’s worth mentioning that both of Bahia’s early wins were captured on home turf at their Arena Fonte Nova, but since those early successes, Bahia have slumped to nine matches without a win in Serie A, six of which have been defeats.
The visitors have also lost their last four matches on the trot overall with defeats suffered against Gremio, Atletico GO, Corinthians and Athletico PR, while results away from home have produced just one win out of their last 11 matches on their travels.
