Eight matches without a win is a long time without success in the Premier League, and things don’t get any easier with a visit from Everton for today’s hosts, Bournemouth, when the two teams meet at the Vitality Stadium with the home side desperate to claw their way out of the bottom three.
Defeats to Burnley, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City are no disgrace as The Cherries have had to endure a tough set of fixtures recently, and although they picked up points in 2-2 and 3-3 draws with Crystal Palace and West Ham, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe may well have pencilled in at least one of those games as a potential win for his side.
A couple of months ago, Bournemouth may well have looked forward to a visit from Everton, but the landscape has changed dramatically up in the blue half of merseyside, while Bournemouth are without a win from their last four on home turf with an overall home record of 2-3-5 12/16.
Onto Everton, and Big Sam’s revival at Everton continued over Christmas as The Toffees extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to seven matches albeit with a couple of 0-0 stalemates either side of Christmas against Chelsea and West Brom respectively.
Nevertheless, Everton will make their way down to the south coast in confident mood as they look to further improve an away record which stands at 1-5-4 7/17 which includes just one defeat from their last five on the road.
Big Sam has stopped the bleeding, and Everton can look at this fixture with a potential three points to add to their tally, but I recommend keeping the draw on the visitor’s side here.
