Bournemouth Preview – Can Scott Parker get off to a winning start?

Parker made a surprise move from Fulham to Bournemouth during the summer, following his previous club’s relegation to the Championship. That will be an interesting reunion when the Cherries take on the Cottagers later on in the campaign but Parker will be hoping to get off to a fast start in his first competitive game in charge at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth start their league campaign next weekend when they face another of the teams relegated from the Premier League last season in West Brom.

Parker has not been overly busy in the transfer market as yet with just a couple of loan signings but there’s no doubt there is plenty of talent in the squad as it stands. The new manager will be hoping that he can keep hold of the likes of David Brooks and Arnaut Groeneveid who were instrumental last season.

Our betting prediction
Bournemouth win/BTTS
(odds taken 2000 GMT, Thursday 29 July)

Bournemouth’s first year back in the Championship seen them climb into the playoffs but were knocked out by Brentford at the semi-final stage. As ever the division will be competitive but a playoff position will be viewed as the minimum this season as they attempt to push towards automatic promotion.

The Cherries record in the League Cup is not all that encouraging over the last few years with the one exception being their run to the quarter-finals in 2018. Parker will want to get a winning start, though, especially being at home.

MK Dons Preview – Are Dons capable of upsetting their hosts?

Last season was Russell Martin’s first full season as manager of MK Dons and he will be relatively happy with how the campaign went. Having been involved in the relegation battle the season before (when Martin first took over halfway through), the Dons were much more competitive last time around and despite a slow start to the season, they ended up mid-table and just nine points off the playoff positions. Considering they took only one point from their final two games when out of contention for the top six, it was a more than reasonable finish.

Martin – who has a philosophy of how he wants his team to play – will be looking to build on that showing and get his team into the playoffs.

The most striking thing about this group of players is how much youth there is. There are just three players who are 30 and over and one of those is a goalkeeper whilst the long-serving Dean Lewington is another.

MK Dons have last their top scorers from last season in Cameron Jerome and Scott Fraser who have moved to Luton and Ipswich respectively. They will be a big miss but Martin will be looking to the likes of Mohamed Eisa and Max Watters as new signings to make up for those losses.

Bournemouth vs MK Dons Betting Advice

The Euros will soon be a distant memory but both Bournemouth and MK Dons start their quests to reach Wembley by getting to the final of this competition. As unlikely as that may seem it is a game that the two managers will be hoping for a positive result from.
Not only is this Parker’s first game but with it being a home match and against lower league opposition there is expectation of a good performance from the Cherries. MK Dons have lost key players over the summer but they a system and identity under Martin and will be a threat.

Key Facts – Bournemouth vs MK Dons Betting Tip

  • Scott Parker will take charge of his first game in charge of Bournemouth having moved from Fulham in the summer
  • MK Dons were much stronger in the second half of last season eventually finishing in mid-table of League One
  • Both teams will be wanting a positive showing ahead of their league campaigns beginning next week

Both these teams averaged over 2.5 goals in their games last season and although the visitors have lost two of their best attackers I expect this to be an open game.
