A 0-0 draw with Burnley was followed by back-to-back wins against Southampton 1-0 away from home and a convincing 3-0 rout of Sheffield United at St James’ Park while the point against Villa has given Newcastle a valuable 12-point buffer above the bottom three.
Newcastle have managed just one win out of their last seven matches though on their travels within an away record which stands at a below-par 4-2-9 13/29, so the visitors are certainly not guaranteed the points here.
