2.Bundesliga outfit, Eintracht Braunschweig, will have one more bite at the cherry of attempting to replace incumbent Bundesliga side Wolfsburg when they play host in this Bundesliga play-off second leg at their Eintracht-Stadion on Monday night.
The hosts trail Wolfsburg by a single goal following last week’s 1-0 defeat away at Wolfsburg in the first leg, so they’ll be hoping they can make the most of home advantage in tonight’s climax, where they’ve won their last five league matches on the trot.
Recent wins over Heidenheim, Dynamo Dresden, Bochum, Union Berlin and Karlsruher helped lift them agonisingly close to automatic promotion from the German second tier to the Bundesliga, only to lose out by a point to Hannover on the final day of the regular season.
However, Braunschweig finished the season with an impressive home record of 13-3-1 35/17 which included scoring a goal in each of their home games throughout their league campaign. Strikers Kumbela (13 goals) and Nyman (11 goals) look their best hopes of scoring tonight.
Visitors Wolfsburg take a valuable one goal lead into this tricky looking second leg at Braunschweig thanks to last week’s 1-0 home win in the first leg through a goal from striker Mario Gomez from the penalty spot.
The visitors apparently seem to have one foot back in the Bundesliga already, but they’ll have to ensure they do a professional job against a hungry Eintracht Braunschweig outfit, and with such a slender margin under their belts, this second leg is far from over.
Indeed, with just two away wins from their last ten matches overall, this could be a potential banana-skin for Wolfsburg as they’ve collected wins at RB Leipzig (a great result) and Eintracht Frankfurt, so they know they’re capable of getting a result on their day.
I just can’t see a clear winner here in this second leg, but I’ll back both teams to score.
