Brentford return to Griffin Park on Saturday afternoon to take on lowly Barnsley as the hosts look to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat away at Hull City last weekend.
Following some indifferent results in recent weeks, The Bees have dropped down to 13th place in the Championship, after defeats away from home at Cardiff City and Hull City along with draws against Burton Albion and QPR, but all three points on Saturday afternoon could lift them back into the top half of the division.
Despite the apparent downturn in form overall, Brentford have remained pretty solid at home where they possess a record of 3-6-1 18/14 which includes an unbeaten run of nine matches on home turf. Points against Wolves and Derby County, along with wins over Millwall, Leeds United and Fulham show they’re no pushovers.
Visitors Barnsley sit in the lower reaches of the Championship after five straight defeats on the trot, and the question is whether they can stay in the second tier against all odds again this season, or if time will finally catch up with Paul Heckingbottom’s men.
The Tykes had previously strung together a promising four-match run without defeat which included wins over strugglers, Burton Albion and Birmingham City, but a string of defeats to Cardiff City, Leeds United, Reading, Bolton Wanderers and Derby County have plunged the south Yorkshire outfit back in the relegation mire.
Barnsley head into this clash on the back of two away defeats on the trot amidst an overall record of 2-3-5 13/18 which at first doesn’t appear to be too bad, but they’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last 18 on the road.
