Thomas Frank’s Brentford will be hoping to return to winning ways after their shock home defeat to Preston North End before the international break. This Saturday, Mark Robins’ Coventry City visit the Brentford Community Stadium in EFL Championship action. The home side are the clear favourites with the bookies.

Brentford Preview – Bees to bounce back from defeat with a big three points?

Brentford were 2-0 up and cruising against Preston at the Brentford Community Stadium before the break, with an Ivan Toney brace giving them a commanding 2-0 lead at the interval. However, the Bees were stunned in the second period, crashing to a shock 4-2 defeat.

That was Brentford’s first Championship reverse since losing at Birmingham City on the opening weekend of the season. Last term’s play-off finalists have made a sluggish start to this campaign, picking up just four points from a possible six. Their only league success came against Huddersfield Town at home on matchday two.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score
4/5

Despite their shaky league form, Brentford have been good in the Carabao Cup, seeing off Premier League sides Southampton, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham to reach the last eight. Can they take their EFL Cup form into the Championship? Thomas Frank’s boys will be desperate for all three points at the weekend.

Coventry City Preview – Sky Blues to leave London pointless?

Mark Robins’ Coventry City were promoted from EFL League One as champions last season. Life in the Championship has been tough going thus far, though, as the Sky Blues have also won just once, drawn one game and suffered two defeats.

Coventry kicked off their season with a narrow 2-1 loss to Bristol City at Ashton Gate. They then secured their first Championship win since 2012 when they beat Queens Park Rangers 3-2 at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium in Birmingham. Since then, though, City have drawn 0-0 with Barnsley and lost 3-1 to Bournemouth.

Coventry were excellent away from home in League One last term, amassing an impressive 29 points from 17 away fixtures. Only Rotherham United, who were also promoted, picked up more points on the road. Getting away wins in the Championship is a far harder task, however, and Saturday’s clash in the capital will be a stern test for Robins and his boys.

Brentford vs Coventry City Betting Advice

This will be the first meeting between the two since they squared off in League One back in March 2014. Brentford won that one 3-1 at Griffin Park, and we could see a similar scoreline on Saturday.

Key Facts – Brentford vs Coventry City Betting Tip

  • Brentford and Coventry have not met for over six years
  • Both clubs have taken four points from a possible 12 so far
  • The Bees were beaten at their new home for the first time in their previous match

Frank’s troops will be desperate to strike back after being upset by Alex Neil’s North End last time out. No less than three points will do for the Bees this weekend. Coventry have scored in five of their six league and cup matches so far this term. With that in mind, put some money on Brentford to win and both teams to score at 5/2.

Ivan Toney has started life at Brentford in fine fettle. The former Newcastle United striker has netted three goals in his last two Bees appearances. Back Toney to open the scoring on Saturday at 7/2.
