Brentford – Bees don’t give much away in West London?

The Bees are buzzing. Despite needing the play-offs to finally seal promotion out of the Championship last season, Thomas Frank’s Brentford have fared better than any of the newly-promoted sides. They are the only one of this trio occupying a place in the top-half of the Premier League after five rounds. It is table-toppers Liverpool next, however, played out in front of a barmy Brentford Community Stadium.

Last time out at Molineux, Brentford delivered arguably their most accomplished performance since making the step up to this level. An Ivan Toney masterclass was how some described the 2-0 victory away to Wolves a week ago. The former Newcastle United striker was involved in both goals, meaning he has played a part in three of his team’s five league goals so far this term (two goals, one assist).

Had it not been for Leandro Trossard netting a late winner for Brighton here on 11 September, the Bees would have been unbeaten in 2021-22. As it is, their record still surpasses early expectations, picking up eight of a possible fifteen points (W2 D2 L1) to sit ninth – above Arsenal and Leicester. And with just four conceded across ten previous home league games, the West Londoners could be awkward customers.

Liverpool – Rampant Reds can extended lengthy unbeaten streak?

Jurgen Klopp labelled last week’s 3-0 win at Anfield over Crystal Palace as one of the most hard-fought he had ever seen. While there were admittedly a few hairy moments, few could argue that the 2019-20 Premier League winners were not deserving winners after doing more than enough to keep the three points on Merseyside. The Reds convincingly won the xG battle 3.3 to 0.87.

Liverpool have now generated in excess of 2xG in all six competitive games this season, implying that their issues in attack from last season are consigned to history. They absolutely peppered the Leeds goal in their latest Premier League away outing, scoring three from chances equating to 4.57 xG. That their fifth win on the road in succession, doing so by an aggregate of 15-3 having won each of the last three 3-0.

A similar scoreline seems unlikely even if they are evidently capable, with upcoming opponents Brentford a tough nut to crack in West London. Liverpool will be supremely confident of attaining the win needed to remain atop the league, however. For not only are they enjoying the longest current unbeaten run in the English league (15 – W12 D3), their past 27 match ups with promoted sides has yielded 22 victories (D4 L1).

Brentford Vs Liverpool Betting Advice

The underlying numbers for both these teams point towards an intriguing contest unfolding. Liverpool lead the league for shots taken, shots in the box, big chances created, minutes per chance and ranked second behind Manchester United for actual goals scored (12). Yet when it comes to defending, Brentford rank consistently high right across the board, with only three teams allowing fewer goals so far (2).

Brentford Vs Liverpool – Key Facts:

  • Saturday’s fixture in West London will mark the first league meeting between the clubs since May 1947, and first in any competition for more than 32 years.
  • Brentford have made an encouraging start to their debut Premier League campaign, losing one of five matches (W2 D2) and conceding only twice.
  • Liverpool come into Matchday 6 joint-top of the Premier League (W4 D1). The Reds are unbeaten in 15 league games (W12), winning the last five in a row away from home.

In five league games, Liverpool are averaging 3.2 xG per game – easily the best in the division. So for all Brentford’s positive early work and formidable home record (4 conceded in last ten home games), the arrival of Jurgen Klopp’s rampant side is going to be, by some distance, their biggest challenge to date. None of Brentford’s Premier League games thus far saw more than two goals however, suggesting it could be tight.
