Brighton & Hove Albion Preview – Seagulls to soar to a rare home victory?

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Premier League campaign got off to a losing start last Monday. Graham Potter’s men went up against Frank Lampard’s big-spending Chelsea, who left the Amex with a 3-1 win.

Brighton have struggled to make their home ground a fortress since arriving in the Premier League. In fact, Albion won just five home league matches in the Premier League last term, with only Bournemouth, Southampton and Norwich City claiming fewer home points.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score

Brighton picked up a 2-1 win at Burnley on the final day of last season, but the Seagulls have won just three matches in 2020. Albion were beaten by Aston Villa in this competition at the second hurdle last season – will they have a better time in the EFL Cup this time around?

Portsmouth Preview – Can Jackett’s Pompey cause an upset at the Amex?

Portsmouth will be targeting promotion to the EFL Championship this season. Pompey missed out in the play-offs last term, losing to Oxford United on penalties in the semi-finals. Nevertheless, the Hampshire club have been one of the big hitters in League One for the last few years, and promotion to the second tier seems just a matter of time for the long-suffering Pompey supporters.

Portsmouth were excellent in the opening rounds of the EFL Cup last season. After hammering Birmingham City 3-0 at Fratton Park, Kenny Jackett’s side beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium. Unfortunately, they were walloped 4-0 by rivals Southampton in the next round. They also reached the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup, eventually losing out to Arsenal.

After beating Stevenage on penalties after a six-goal thriller at the Lamex Stadium in round one of this season’s Carabao Cup, Pompey’s league campaign started with a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury Town last Saturday. Can Jackett’s troops return to winning ways on Thursday?
