Brighton Prediction

Brighton disposed of Premier League and south coast rivals Bournemouth in the 3rd round of the cup before despatching Championship high-fliers West Brom 3-1 at The Hawthorns in the 4th round replay following a 0-0 draw at their AMEX Stadium.

Brighton have been handed another home tie against Derby County for this 5th round tie and the hosts will be confident they can reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup which would then give them a great chance of a possible spot in the Europa League next season, if they manage to win of course.

Chris Hughton’s side have managed just one win from their last seven matches in all competitions though which was the extra time replay win at The Hawthorns, but they should field a strong side here as they have a real chance of progressing further at Derby’s expense.

Although overall league form at the AMEX Stadium has been a little ordinary, Brighton’s form at home in the FA Cup has been pretty solid as The Seagulls have lost just twice in their last 17 home ties, both of which were against Arsenal who, along with Manchester United, have lifted the cup on 12 occasions.

Key-Facts – Brighton v Derby County

  • Brighton have lost just 2 of their last 17 home ties in the FA Cup
  • Derby have lost 2 of their last 3 encounters against Premier League opposition
  • Brighton beat Derby County 3-0 in their last meeting

Derby County Prediction

Derby County bring a six match un beaten run into their 5th round FA Cup tie away at Brighton having secured wins against Southampton away from home on penalties following two normal time 2-2 draws along with a 1-0 win away at League One side Accrington Stanley to book their place in this round.

In the Championship, Derby County have recorded recent wins over Reading and Hull City, both of which were at their Pride Park ground, along with draws at Preston North End and Ipswich Town – the latter being a particularly disappointing result against the bottom club in the division.

Derby’s away form in the FA Cup has produced mixed results in recent times as the visitors have managed the aforementioned wins at Southampton and Accrington Stanley but prior to that, they’d lost both encounters away at Premier League opposition in the shape of east midlands rivals, Leicester City as well as Manchester United.

Betting Tips Verdict

Brighton with home advantage know they have a real chance of making it through to the quarter-finals of this competition, while Derby manager Frank Lampard may well prioritise a place in the play-offs rather than cup glory.
