Brighton and Brentford have the chance to potentially move into the top half of the Premier League when the two go head to head on Boxing Day.

Brighton Preview – Can Albion end their long way for a win and get an important three points?

Whilst Brighton are still well clear of the bottom three, they come into this game looking for a first win in 12 league games. Their last win was on the 19th of September (2-1 at home to Leicester). They have since drawn eight and lost three. It is a long told story for Graham Potter’s team who do so much well but continue to falter in front of goal. Their 14 goals scored is the second joint lowest in the division but a concession of 17 means they have the fifth best defence.

Albion come into this game with 11 days rest following recent postponements. Their last match was a 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves giving them a third defeat at the Amex Stadium having already lost to Manchester City and Everton.

Potter will be home that rest helps them over the festive period. Brighton travel to play Chelsea and then Everton over the next week or so. There are no immediate concerns over being pulled into a relegation battle but failure to win any of these games would see them without a win in 14.

Neil Maupay often comes under fire the chances he misses but the striker is top scorer for Albion with six goals. He and Leandro Trossard are responsible for more than half their league goals. They actually only have six players who have found the net this season.

Brentford Preview – Will Brentford continue their good performances and power on towards the end of a memorable year?

It may be Brentford’s first season playing at this level but they have already developed the habit of picking up wins when they need them. The Bees got off to an encouraging start with just one defeat in their first seven matches. Losing four straight wouldn’t have been in the script but they have responded well by taking eight points from their last five.

Brentford now sit in 12th place and just a couple of points off ninth. Approaching the halfway point of the season that’s pretty good going for a promoted team.

Thomas Franks will now be looking for his team to have a positive end to the calendar year but is aware they are coming into a tough run of fixtures. Brentford are due to play their next six games after this against teams all currently in the top half, including two against Manchester City.

Their only two defeats away from home in the league this season have come against Burnley and Tottenham so they know how to get results on their travels. They’ve also scored two or more goals in five of their eight away games.

Brighton vs Brentford Betting Advice

These teams are level on points but there’s no doubt it’s Brighton who are in more urgent need of a win considering the run they are on. Their last win was over three months ago and all the positives from the early part of the season are beginning to fade, at least in the eyes of the supporters. Brentford are definitely in a better position than many would have thought for the first game post-Christmas and they could even be in the top half heading into the final game of 2021.

It was Brighton who came out on top when the teams met back in September.

Key Facts –  Brighton vs Brentford Betting Tip

  • Brighton have not won a Premier League game in over three months (11 matches)
  • Brentford have lost only two of their eight away games in the league this season
  • The teams met back in September with Brighton prevailing 1-0

It is hard to see this game being full of goals. Only games involving Wolves average fewer goals than Brighton’s this season. I think that will be the case here, back under 2.5 goals – it’s won in 12 of their 16 games so far.
