Brighton Preview – Can Seagulls maintain imperious home record versus United?

The Seagulls (15th – W7 D12 L12) can be more than satisfied with their efforts since returning to action following the enforced pause, beginning with a thrilling smash-and-grab 2-1 victory at home to Arsenal before impressively keeping third in the table Leicester at bay in a 0-0 draw at the King Power. That now makes it one defeat in their last seven Premier League games (W1 D5 L1).

More importantly, there is now clear daylight between themselves and the relegation places – six points to be precise. A very useful buffer ahead of a third successive fixture in such a short space of time, with an improving Man Utd set to provide Graham Potter’s men with their sternest since the resumption. Recent history suggests the host’s have nothing to fear, however.

Despite losing on all three visits to Old Trafford since promotion three years ago, including losing 3-1 there in November of this campaign, Brighton have fared remarkably well on the South Coast in this fixture. Twice they have hosted Man Utd at The Amex, prevailing on both occasions by a single goal. This season has seen them lose just four times on their own patch (W5 D6 L4), and only once there in the last six (W2 D3 L1).

Manchester United Preview – Quick turnaround a challenge United must meet?

Little more than 72 hours after being forced into playing an additional 30 minutes of extra-time away to Norwich, held 1-1 during normal time of their FA Cup last-eight encounter, Manchester United (6th – W13 D10 L8) are back in action, this time in the league where their pursuit of the top-four resumes. Trailing fourth-placed Chelsea by five points, any slip up at Brighton – where they’ve lost in each of the last two seasons – could be costly.

Despite expending far more energy than planned at the weekend, United will be buoyed by reaching the semi-final of the FA Cup. Along with drawing at Tottenham and thrashing Sheffield United, some useful momentum is being built since the restart. Sustaining it through a hectic schedule will be key if they’re to compete on multiple fronts. Solskjaer is adamant, however, that his team will recover in time for Tuesday.

David de Gea, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all started the Norwich game on the bench so should be ready to start. United’s strong start to the resumption has also seen them extend their unbeaten league run to seven games (W4 D3) – the longest such run in the competition – and should mean any prospect of them departing the South Coast empty handed for a third season running are slim.

Brighton Vs Manchester United Betting Advice

The spoils have been exclusively that of Brighton when these sides have met previously at The Amex, winning 1-0 and 3-2 across the last two campaigns. This edition of Man Utd is a lot stronger than those, not only in terms of the quality of personnel available to Solskjaer now but also confidence and form. Realistically, only three points will do for the visitors and three points is what I fully expect them to achieve.

Brighton Vs Manchester United – Key Facts

  • In home games in 2019/20, Brighton have lost only four of fifteen fixtures so far (W5 D6 L4) and only one of the last six (W2 D3 L1).
  • No team is on a longer unbeaten run at the present time than Man Utd (7 games: W4 D3), who have, however, won only once on the road in their last five attempts (W1 D2 L2).
  • Brighton can boast a 100% record in home Premier League games versus Man Utd, with the latter beaten by a solitary goal on two previous visits.

Any win for either side will likely be hard fought. Brighton have only conceded on four occasions in their last six league games while Man Utd boast a clean sheet in five of their last seven. Under 2.5 Goals is one option at 4/5 (Bet365), as is Man Utd & Under 2.5 Goals at 13/5 (Betway).
