Brighton – Seagulls staring at sixth successive loss?

Having initially burst out of the starting gates when winning four of their opening five league fixtures, Brighton have gradually run out of steam to the point that a once promising season is beginning to unravel at a startling pace. Defeat to Liverpool over the weekend, losing 2-0 at Amex Stadium, made it an unprecedented five straight league defeats for Graham Potter’s side. Four of these being to nil.

Not since April 2007 when the club was still in League One have they suffered as many consecutive losses. So this is uncharted waters for a lot of these players. A 2-0 scoreline away to struggling Watford remains the Seagulls’ sole victory across their past nine league outings (D3 L5) as well as their only clean sheet in eleven. Graham Potter has issues to resolve at both ends of the pitch therefore.

Key Stat: Saturday’s 2-0 loss at this venue to second place Liverpool was a third successive home league defeat for Brighton, who have one win from their past eleven Premier League outings at Amex Stadium (W1 D5 L5).

Tottenham – Streaky Spurs fading from top-four equation?

Antonio Conte has won league titles in England and Italy. The fiery Italian was installed as Tottenham manager in November on the premise he would have this team fighting for a top-four place come the end of the season. So while this may still turn out to be the case, Saturday’s 3-2 loss at Manchester United was the latest of many blows as Spurs dropped to seventh in the table following their fifth league defeat in eight.

Spurs twice fought back at Old Trafford, and a team which had plundered nine goals in recent 4-0 and 5-0 wins over Leeds and Everton, respectively, always looked a threat going forward. But it remains defensively where Conte has huge cause for concern. Six of their past nine Premier League games have seen four or more goals, conceding fifteen times across these games and recording only two clean sheets.

Key Stat: After losing 3-2 away to Man Utd at the weekend, Spurs have now conceded at least twice in four of their past six Premier League away games (W3 L3).

Brighton Vs Tottenham Betting Advice

Are Brighton merely trying to run down the season? Recent results make it difficult to suggest otherwise. Graham Potter has been linked with every managerial vacancy, or so it would seem, but is currently overseeing the Seagulls worst run of league defeats (five) for nearly fifteen years. Which doesn’t augur well ahead of facing Tottenham, a side boasting wins in three of the past four head-to-head matches.

Brighton Vs Tottenham – Key Facts:

  • A 3-1 win in north London in this season’s FA Cup earned Tottenham their third win in four meetings with Brighton. However, the Seagulls have won the last two encounters as hosts (1-0 in 2020/21 and 3-0 in 2019/20).
  • There has been at least four match goals in four of the past six Tottenham away Premier League games, and at least three goals scored in two of the past three head-to-heads held in Brighton.
  • Both teams are struggling defensively. Brighton, who are coming off five successive league losses, have one clean sheet in 11 Premier League games, Tottenham two in their last nine.

All three said victories were in London, though. Whereas here in Brighton the home side has won the previous two meetings, both to nil, including 1-0 in last season’s corresponding game. A repeat scoreline feels improbable. Brighton boast a single clean sheet in 11 league games, Spurs just two in their last nine. The latter would also see Over 3.5 Goals return a winner in four of their past six Premier League games.
