The NRL season continues in midweek with the fourth round of action kicking off with this battle between the Broncos and Roosters. The Roosters suffered a heavy loss on their return from lockdown and face a tough match here.

Can Broncos respond to heavy setback?

On their return from lockdown last week, the Brisbane Broncos had a restart to forget. They were torn apart by the red hot Parramatta Eels, the Broncos going down 6-34.

That was a heavy blow after having started the season with back to back wins. Those wins were recorded against the Cowboys and the Rabbitohs, both within six-point winning margins.

Brisbane will be throwing Tesi Niu into action for his debut off the bench. They are missing centre Kotoni Staggs, which is a big blow for them, and Herbie Farnworth comes in.

The Broncos will also miss their captain Alex Glenn because of a leg cut. Interestingly Glenn was absent from their two opening games of the season, both of which they won.

Our betting prediction:
Roosters 7-12 Winning Margin
5/1

The Broncos lead the head to head over the Rooster 22-18 since 1998. The two clubs did trade wins in the last NRL campaign, both taking respective home wins.

The Broncos have won three of their last four against Sydney. This season the Broncos have been loose at the back and will that open the door for the back to back champs?

Roosters find their feet

The season didn’t start well for the Roosters, who were toppled in their opening two fixtures of the campaign. Defeats against the Panthers and the Sea Eagles were big early setbacks.

But they were always expected to come back stronger after the lockdown and they did just that. They powered to a comfortable 28-12 success over the Rabbitohs and will be looking to build some momentum.

From the team news front, there doesn’t appear to be too much happening for the Roosters. They will be waiting to see if lock Victor Radley will play as he appeals a charge for dangerous play.

One notable factor last week for the Roosters was the return to form of Kyle Flanagan, and if the halfback is flying again on Thursday, he could control the fate of this game.

Sydney are winless on their last six trips to Brisbane to face the Broncos. So that is something that may pique the interest of punters here. But on last week’s showing, they may well break that streak.

Brisbane Broncos vs Sydney Roosters Betting Advice

The Broncos last week again failed to deliver against one of the elite teams in the ladder. They get a tough match here, even on home soil as they look to dust themselves off from the damage done to them by the Eels.

Key Facts – Brisbane Broncos vs Sydney Roosters Betting Tip

  • Brisbane Broncos lost heavily to the Parramatta Eels last weekend
  • The Sydney Roosters are winless in six at Brisbane
  • Sydney Roosters won their first game of the season last weekend

The Broncos are not at full strength either and are most importantly missing their captain. Stack that up with the absence of Kotoni Staggs and the Broncos can struggle.

So it is Sydney that we will lean towards to go and break that six match winless streak in Brisbane. The margins in the last three meetings have all been by at least five points.

A Roosters -6 handicap at 8/11 looks fair value to back the match favourites* (betting odds taken from Bet356 at 23:50 GMT on Tuesday, June 2nd 2020)
