A top six clash on Wednesday night looks the pick of the fixtures in the Championship with sixth placed Bristol City taking on fifth placed Fulham at Ashton Gate as both teams tussle for an all-important three points to consolidate their places in the play-off pack.
Bristol City were held to a third draw in five matches on the weekend when they drew 2-2 away at Leeds United which followed earlier stalemates with Derby County and Sunderland, the latter being a 3-3 draw with Bristol City holding a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead at one stage.
The hosts have registered just one league win though from their last eight in the Championship, and they’re in grave danger of letting a promising season slip from their grasp as the pressure intensifies for a play-off place. Bristol City’s home record stands at 8-4-4 25/17 with three of their four defeats being against top half opposition.
Onto Fulham, and the London club are once again staging a late surge this season as they now sit in fifth spot having produced six wins from their last seven matches overall in the Championship, with wins over Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough, Burton Albion, Barnsley, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.
The Cottagers started slowly again this term as they collected only four wins from their first 17 matches of the season, and fans must be wondering why the team only start performing in the second half of the campaign, and have they left it too late again this time?
With just six points separating them from second placed Cardiff City, it seems they may have timed things just right, but they’ll need to get a result of some sort here and hope The Bluebirds slip up at Ipswich Town – but Fulham are unbeaten in their last five on the road so they stand a good chance of walking away from Ashton Gate with at least a point here.
