Championship at Betfred

There’s just the one game on Sunday afternoon in the Championship but it promises to be a cracker with Bristol City taking on Leeds United as the betting tips continue at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City Prediction – Can Bristol City break into top six?

Bristol City came mighty close to grabbing a place in the play-offs as they finished in 8th place and just 4 points adrift of 6th placed Derby County.

The west country club produced a sustained challenge throughout the season but a disappointing finish to the season ended their dreams.

Just 1 win from their last 6 matches of the season sealed Bristol City’s fate, which came in the shape of a 2-1 win away at Millwall.

However, 3 defeats within these last 6 matches saw The Robins suffer defeats to Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County.

Bristol City manager, Lee Johnson, earned the plaudits last season as he almost steered his side to a top six finish.

Johnson will certainly be keen for his side to make a better fist of things on home turf at Ashton Gate this time around.

The hosts ended last season with an overall home record of 8-8-7 28/26 which included just 1 win from their last 7 home matches.

A 3-2 win over West Brom was Bristol City’s only highlight in the last weeks of the season in their own backyard.

The goals market therefore appeals here; 14 of Bristol City’s 23 home matches saw both teams score.

Leeds United Prediction – Can Leeds United fulfil promise?

Leeds United suffered a ‘double whammy’ of disappointment in last season’s Championship as they not only missed out on automatic promotion but also crashed out of the play-offs.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side looked like staging a very serious challenge for automatic promotion to the Premier League, and going up very much looked on the cards.

There were serious concerns around whether Bielsa’s high-tempo pressing style of play and hard training regimen would take it out of the players.

This didn’t appear to be the case for the large majority of the season as Leeds were there or thereabouts at the top of the Championship.

However, Leeds did appear to run out of steam towards the end of the season where they recorded just 1 win out of their last 6 matches of the season.

That win ironically was against Derby County in a 1-0 victory away from home at Pride Park, but Derby were to gain retribution in dramatic fashion a coupe of weeks later.

4 defeats from these last 6 matches saw Leeds suffer defeats to Wigan Athletic, Brentford and Ipswich Town which resulted in a 3rd place finish.

Leeds United did look as though they were on their way to Wembley for the play-off final though as they secured that aforementioned win in the 1st leg of the semi-final.

But Leeds were dismantled by Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the 2nd leg 4-2 at Elland Road to break Yorkshire hearts.
