Bristol City slumped to a third consecutive defeat at the weekend when they were beaten 4-2 by visitors Brentford at Ashton Gate as The Robins still try to find their first win of the new season.
The newly promoted side from League One will have been in confident mood ahead of the opening match in their return to the Championship, but losses to Sheffield Wednesday (away) and at home to Brentford, along with a Capital Cup first round loss away at Luton Town has resulted in a shaky start for Steve Cotterill’s boys.
Despite possessing forwards Wilbraham and Agard up front, who were both prolific in last season’s promotion season, The Robins look pretty light in midfield and are operating on a relatively small squad compared to the bigger clubs in this division.
Visitors Leeds United still remain unbeaten after their first two Championship matches which both ended in draws – 1-1 at home to Burnley and a 0-0 draw at the Madejski Stadium with Reading, so not a bad start for the next new manager Uwe Rosler.
Leeds’ success on the field this season will largely depend on the level of interference from Italian owner Cellino, and you have to feel sorry for former manager Neil Redfearn who steered Leeds away from almost certain relegation at the end of last season, and whom has since been sacked as a consequence.
But back to the present, and Leeds have made some astute signings during the summer with former Leicester City defender Sol Bamba joining up with another ex-Foxes striker Chris Wood who, by my reckoning, has scored 37 goals in 86 Championship starts and is a proven goalscorer at this level.
I’ll therefore side with Leeds United to get at least a point at Ashton Gate tonight as they look the more capable of the two sides here – could be a 2-1 win for the visitors if not a draw.
