Dean Holden’s Bristol City and Alex Neil’s Preston North End lock horns in the EFL Championship at Ashton Gate this Saturday afternoon. These two clubs are well matched on paper, with just a point and two places separated the pair in the current Championship table. The hosts are the slight favourites, but this is a tough one to call. Bristol City Preview – Can the out-of-sorts Robins pick up a crucial three points?

Bristol City made a superb start to their season under new boss Dean Holden, but the Robins have gone off the boil in recent months. After 22 games played, City have won ten, lost nine and drawn three. They are in tenth spot, four points adrift of the play-off places.

Since taking ten points from a possible 12 in November, Bristol City have gone on to lose six of their following nine. Holden’s side have taken just three points from the last 15 on offer, losing 2-1 to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in their previous Championship encounter.

Bristol City did beat EFL League One high flyers Portsmouth in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup last time out, which they will be desperate to build on with three points on Saturday.

Preston North End Preview – Can the Lilywhites avoid a third straight loss?

Preston North End ended 2020 with three Championship wins on the spin. North End beat Bristol City, Derby County and Coventry City without conceding. However, they have started 2021 with back-to-back league and cup defeats.

On January 2nd, Preston were beaten at home by Nottingham Forest in the league. They followed that up with an embarrassing 4-1 FA Cup reverse to Wycombe Wanderers, who are currently bottom of the Championship table.

Preston have put themselves back in the play-off picture after those three wins in late December, but Neil’s men have made a poor start to 2021. Can they put things right with a positive result at Ashton Gate at the weekend?

Bristol City vs Preston North End Betting Advice

These two evenly matched teams were involved in a tight encounter at Deepdale last month. It could have gone either way, but Daniel Johnson’s 21st-minute penalty proved to be the difference between the two sides. Last season, both matches ended in draws.

Key Facts – Bristol City vs Preston North End Betting Tip

  • Three of the previous four Bristol City vs Preston meetings have ended all square
  • North End sealed a narrow 1-0 home win over the Robins in the reverse fixture a few weeks back
  • Bristol City have lost four of their last five in the Championship

There was nothing to split these two in the Championship meetings last term. Before a 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate in July, the teams played out a six-goal thriller at Deepdale in September ’19. We can see the evenly matched sides playing out another draw this weekend. The stalemate is priced at 23/10.

Former Manchester City & Celtic man Scott Sinclair is enjoying a fine season at Deepdale. The 31-year-old has helped himself to seven Championship goals this term. Sinclair is available at 3/1 to score anytime at Ashton Gate this Saturday.
