Bristol City and Wycombe Wanderers go head-to-head at Ashton Gate in EFL Championship action on Boxing Day. Wycombe, last term’s EFL League One play-off winners, slipped to the bottom of the table last weekend for the first time this season. The Robins will be desperate for a victory after four defeats in five. Will Bristol City make home advantage count in this festive fixture?

Bristol City Preview – Can the Robins return to winning ways?

Bristol City made a superb start to their season under new boss Dean Holden, winning each of their opening four. However, they have gone on to win just five of their following 16. The Robins have slipped down to ninth after recent results, three points adrift of the top six.

Bristol City have been in poor form lately, losing three in a row. After back-to-back 2-0 losses to Rotherham United and Millwall, City were beaten by Preston North End at Deepdale last Friday night, with a Daniel Johnson penalty giving the home team a 1-0 win. That was their fifth reverse in seven games.

Our betting prediction:
Bristol City to win both halves
9/2

Bristol City will be desperate for a home win having taken a mere three points from the last 15 on offer. A home game against the league’s bottom team could be just what the doctor ordered. Can they take all three points from this one?

Wycombe Wanderers Preview – Another defeat for the bottom club?

Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe Wanderers have found Championship life tough going so far. They were beginning to find their feet after back-to-back wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City in late October and early November, but they have failed to win since.

Wycombe slipped to the foot of the table last weekend for the first time since winning promotion. Despite Ainsworth’s men drawing 1-1 at home with Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday leapfrogged the Chairboys with a 1-0 win over Coventry City.

Wycombe have mustered up just two Championship wins so far, losing 12 and drawing six of the other 18. Wanderers have the joint worst away record in England’s second tier, taking just five points from ten fixtures on the road. The bookies have Wycombe priced at 4/1 to win this one.

Bristol City vs Wycombe Wanderers Betting Advice

The last league meeting between Bristol City and Wycombe was way back in March 2004. The pair drew 1-1 at Ashton Gate in the 2003-04 League One campaign, with the reverse game at Adams Park ending in a 3-0 win for the home team.

They have met three times in cup competitions since then, though, with Bristol City winning two of the three by a goal to nil. The last meeting was in the EFL Cup in August 2016, which the Robins won 1-0 at Adams Park thanks to a Tammy Abraham goal.
