Among last week’s standout results from the first round of the 2022-23 Danish Superliga season was Nordsjaelland winning 2-0 away at Odense. The sides were separated by just two points by the time last season came to an end but it was the manner of the victory – dominating from an attacking perspective, especially goal attempts (20 vs 10) and shots on target (7 vs 3) – that really caught the attention.

Tigrene (The Tigers) accumulated 3.3 xGF in that opening fixture, according to Opta. So the margin of victory could have been wider. However, Opta also inform us that they would record in excess of 3xGF only twice last season. Therefore a repeat performance seems unlikely – although perhaps not impossible, for a side currently unbeaten in its last ten Superliga fixtures (W4 D6) going back to April of last term.

Key Stat: By defeating Odense 2-0 away from home in the opening round, Nordsjaelland would score more than once in an away Superliga fixture for the second game running – a feat they had failed to manage in their five previous away league games.
