English Premier League
Pick: Crystal Palace to WIN
Odds: 15/8

(All betting odds correct at time of writing: 20th November 2020)

Preview: Monday’s first offering from the Premier League focuses on the battle at Turf Moor, one which Crystal Palace appear to have established the upper hand in: The Eagles clinching maximum points here in each of the past two campaigns. They will fancy their chances of a third as well, up against a Burnlet side without a league win in 2020/21.

Burnley Preview – Where is the next goal and win coming from?

The Premier League’s bottom three are comprised solely of teams still without a win this season, with Burnley (D2 L5) sandwiched between Sheffield United and West Brom after collecting two points from their seven league games so far. The last time the Lancashire club went their opening eight matches of a league season without recording a single victory was back in 2014/15, when they went on to be relegated.

So if alarm bells weren’t already ringing, they well and truly should be. Following Monday night’s eminently winnable fixture come games against Man City, Everton and Arsenal, in that order. Therefore failure to beat Crystal Palace, as they did at the end of June at Selhurst Park, and surely even a typically stoic Sean Dyche will anxiously begin to wonder where his team’s next win is going to come from.

At Turf Moor this season, Burnley have admittedly had it tougher than most, facing an upwardly-mobile Southampton as well as Chelsea and Tottenham. They lost all three, though, failing to score in any. The Clarets have never lost their opening four home games of a league season, while they are the only side without a goal at home in 2020/21. Unsurprisingly, no team has had fewer shots on target either (19).

Crystal Palace Preview – Red hot Zaha can shine at Turf Moor?

Roy Hodgson can be more than satisfied with his team’s body of work so far this season, with Crystal Palace (W4 D1 L3) looking rather settled in the top half of the table. The Eagles finding themselves much closer to topping the table (5 points from leaders Leicester) than they are the relegation zone (10 clear of West Brom in 18th), which is precisely where upcoming opponents Burnley languish.

Bearing all that in mind, it is slightly perplexing seeing the visitors available at such appealing odds. Not only is the opposition in question at a low ebb but Palace have plenty going for them here. For starters, they’ve been winning games, which always helps, and doing so on the road, too, at Fulham (1-2) and Man Utd (1-3). Neither were smash and grab either, creating 2.69 and 1.82 xG respectively.

On top of this, Hodgson appears to have a near-full clean bill of health. Eberechi Eze, who was exceptional in Palace’s 4-1 victory at home to Leeds before the break, is a slight doubt but should feature. Star man Wilfried Zaha has been inspired this season, meanwhile. His seven goal involvements (5 goals & 2 assists) is as many as the former Man Utd winger managed throughout the whole of 2019/20.

Burnley Vs Crystal Palace Betting Advice

Opta inform us that only at three grounds have Crystal Palace recorded more wins than they have losses. Turf Moor, residence of a Burnley outfit enduring their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign, is one, with The Eagles prevailing on three of five prior visits to Lancashire. That includes each of the past two seasons, when they were a couple goals too good on both instances, registering a 2-0 success here last term.

Burnley Vs Crystal Palace – Key Facts:

  • Burnley are one of three sides, along with Sheffield United and West Brom, still to record a Premier League win this season (D2 L5), having scored fewer (3) than all other sides.
  • Crystal Palace (W4 D1 L3) scored four in their latest 4-1 victory over Leeds, and have netted 3+ goals twice in 2020/21 – they failed to do so once in 2020/21.
  • Turf Moor has seen more Premier League wins in this fixture for the away side, with Crystal Palace winning three of five such meetings, including the most recent two.

Burnley have been here before, though; few clubs are able to withstand such woeful periods before miraculously springing into life. And with tougher assignments than this on the immediate horizon, suddenly this fixture feels all the more critical. Yet it is nigh-on impossible to place faith in a side with no wins and fewer goals than anyone. Palace, by contrast, boast four more wins whilst averaging four times as many goals.
