Preview: Given the runaround last time out, Burnley can nonetheless welcome a number of key players back in time for Saturday’s visit of an Everton side who are enduring a troubling period themselves. Last season, the hosts claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win for their fourth success in six at Turf Moor in this fixture.

Burnley Preview – Dyche keen to mark milestone in style?

Sean Dyche will take charge of his 200th Premier League game on Saturday, becoming the 35th different manage to reach the milestone. According to Opta, only four out of the fifteen English managers to achieve this feat went on to win game number 200. Burnley (W1 D2 L6), therefore, can ensure their long-serving manager joins an elusive group provided they can make it back-to-back home wins this weekend.

Burnley have undoubtedly had the beating of Everton at Turf Moor, winning four of six Premier League meetings held here in Lancashire since 2009. That includes last season’s corresponding fixture when Jeff Hendrick, who is no longer at the club having recently moved to rivals Newcastle, scored the only goal of the game. The previous four such encounters between the sides had seen both teams among the goals.

A high-scoring affair seems improbable on this occasion meanwhile. This season, Burnley are the lowest scorers with four goals, having also attempted the fewest shots (83) and hit the target less often (24 times) than all other sides. A game of few goals will suit them more, however. In the 18 previous instances whereby the visiting side scored at least once, The Clarets emerged victorious only once (W1 D3 L14).

Burnley 1-0 (Correct Score)

Everton Preview – Ancelotti powerless in preventing recent decline?

It feels an awfully long time since Everton (W5 D1 L4) were top of the Premier League. Since a run of four straight wins at the start of the campaign, the Toffees have won only once in six league outings (W1 D1 L4) – that away to Fulham, who had suffered six defeats in eight prior to a 3-2 loss at Craven Cottage that was slightly harsh on them. They have subsequently fallen from first in the table to eighth.

Leeds United were the latest to inflict further misery on Carlo Ancelotti and his out of sorts team, who have lost four of the last five and continue to leak goals at an alarming rate. It is now no clean sheet in nine, ironically since a 1-0 win away at league leaders Tottenham in their opening fixture, following last week’s 1-0 home reverse. There was nothing fortuitous about this latest defeat either: xG EVE 1.49 – 3.38 LEE.

Disconcertingly, it could be about to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better. Next up is a trip to Turf Moor, where they have won only twice on six previous Premier League visits, while encounters with Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester and Man City have to be negotiated before the year is out. Fail to win on Saturday and their gradual descent down the table could very quickly become a landslide.

Burnley Vs Everton Betting Advice

Just as Burnley appear to have turned a corner with their first win of the season, Everton seem stuck in a rut with no obvious end in sight. The Toffees certainly have enough about them to make a mockery of their recent dip in form by suddenly embarking on a run of victories, however, returns of four points in 18, and four defeats in the last five, speaks of an alarming decline compared with how they initially begun 2020/21.

Burnley vs Everton – Key Facts:

  • The home side, Burnley, are looking to record back-to-back home Premier League wins for the first time since October 2019, when following up a win over Norwich by beating Everton 1-0.
  • At least two goals have been conceded by Everton in each of their previous four away Premier League games (W2 L2), while only Sheff Utd (13 games) are on a longer wait for a clean sheet (9).
  • Burnley have won four of the six Premier League meetings held in Lancashire, coming out on top in last season’s corresponding fixture with a 1-0 win at Turf Moor.

Burnley have always been a streaky side, capable of putting enough points together in shortened periods to ensure relegation is rarely a concern come the end of the season. Their recent 1-0 victory here in Lancashire over Crystal Palace should therefore have Everton concerned, despite the fact The Clarets have managed only one win, and one goal scored, in four Premier League home games so far this season.
