Two Premier League sides go head-to-head in the Carabao Cup in midweek, as Sean Dyche’s Burnley welcome Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to Turf Moor on Wednesday night for a fourth round tie. The Citizens will be hoping to bounce back at the first time of asking after being comprehensively beaten at home by Leicester City last Sunday. Will the holders return to winning ways and progress through to the final eight?

Burnley Preview – Can the Clarets cause City problems at Turf Moor?

Sean Dyche’s Burnley have a tough opening to their Premier League season. The Clarets kick-started their league campaign with a 4-2 loss to Leicester at the King Power Stadium. They followed that up with a 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Turf Moor last Saturday.

However, Burnley have won two out of two in the Carabao Cup so far. In round two, a second-half Matej Vydra penalty earned Dyche’s troops a 1-1 draw in normal time against fellow Premier League side Sheffield United. The Lancashire team then went on to win 5-4 on penalties.

Burnley then navigated through a tricky third round tie against tough EFL Championship outfit Millwall. Josh Brownhill sent them on their way with a goal right on the stroke of half time. Vydra doubled Burnley’s advantage in injury-time at The Den to give his side a 2-0 victory.

Man City are a wounded animal after last weekend’s result and performance. This could be a tough one for the Clarets, who are priced at 8/1 to win in normal time on home soil.

Manchester City Preview – Pep’s boys to strike back in style?

Manchester City made a steady start to their 2020-21 season. In their Premier League opener, goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus gave the Citizens a 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Pep Guardiola’s men then edged past Jason Tindall’s Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium in the third round of the Carabao Cup last week. Efforts from youngsters Liam Delap and Foden secured a 2-1 home win.

Despite being the massive favourites, Man City were embarrassed by Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester at the Etihad last Sunday. The hosts took the lead, but Jamie Vardy’s hat-trick put the Foxes 3-1 up. James Maddison made it four, while Nathan Ake reduced the deficit. Youri Tielemans had the last laugh, scoring an 88th-minute penalty, which was Leicester’s third penalty of the game, to give the Foxes a resounding 5-2 win.

Man City will be desperate to put things right at Turf Moor on Wednesday before travelling to Elland Road to take on Leeds United in Premier League action at the weekend.
