Burnley – Can Clarets arrest Turf Moor slide?

Fresh from becoming only the second ever player to net a first-half hat-trick in an away Premier League game, Burnley striker Chris Wood will have his sights set on adding to his total of 10 league goals for the season when he comes face to face with a favourite opponent of his on Monday. Against no other side has Wood scored more often in the competition, with 6 goals in 7 games, than he has West Ham.

Three of those have come in his last three appearances at Turf Moor, helping his team to garner seven points from these meetings, winning the last two. Burnley (W9 D9 L15) won this fixture comfortably last season, Wood scoring and seeing another disallowed through VAR intervention in a 3-0 scoreline, but are currently on their longest wait for a home win in the top-flight for more than half-a-century.

That emphatic victory last time, thrashing a hopeless Wolves 4-0 away from home, has widened the gap on 18th-placed Fulham to nine points. Burnley had lost three on the spin beforehand, but responded in style to all but confirm a sixth consecutive season in the Premier League next term. Next on the agenda for Sean Dyche, however, will be arresting a seven-game winless run (D5 L2) at their Lancashire residence.

West Ham – Hammers don’t thrive at Turf Moor either?

The club’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League were dealt another blow last time out after losing a top-four six-pointer at home to Chelsea, who subsequently strengthened their grip on fourth position. Consequently, West Ham (W16 D7 L10) remain three points behind their London rivals, who also boast a superior goal difference, and know another setback this weekend could be fatal.

David Moyes’ side have now lost back-to-back league games for only the second time this season, having also losing a pulsating encounter 3-2 at St James’ Park to Newcastle, in which central defender Craig Dawson was shown a red card. He would later miss the Chelsea game through suspension but returns for the trip to Turf Moor, a ground the Hammers have failed to win at on their last three visits (D1 L2).

West Ham couldn’t even score in their previous two away meetings with Burnley, although that should change on Monday. Only Man City (30) have found the back of the net in more different Premier League matches this season than David Moyes’ men (27). Yet their away form is beginning to become a concern. It is now one win from the last five said matches (D1 L3), having lost three of the past four.

Burnley Vs West Ham Betting Advice

Stopping Chris Wood from having an influence on proceedings would appear West Ham’s best bet of taking anything from Monday’s encounter. The in-form Kiwi has scored six goals in as many league games, netting a hat-trick in last weekend’s 4-0 rout away to Wolves. He also found the net the last three times these teams met at Turf Moor, with Burnley unbeaten on each occasion (W2 D1).

Burnley Vs West Ham – Key Facts:

  • Although West Ham were 1-0 winners when these sides met earlier in the season, that was one of only two wins across their previous six Premier League meetings (L4) with Burnley.
  • Burnley won the last two meetings held in Lancashire, though. The Clarets have seen six of their last seven league games feature at least one goal for either side.
  • Both teams scoring has also been a common occurrence in West Ham matches this season, with no team scoring and conceding in the same game as often as them (19).

As well as possessing a rotten recent record in this fixture, West Ham are also in poor form away from home with one win and three defeats in the last five such matches. They do tend to score, although so too do the opposition. No team in England’s top tier this season has seen more matches (19) feature both teams scoring. Meanwhile, Burnley have both scored and conceded in six of their last seven.
