Football – England – League Cup Betting Tips

Bury will take on Sunderland on Thursday night at Gigg Lane on Thursday night in the last of the first round fixtures of the League Cup, with the hosts no doubt scheming a potential ‘giant-killing’ to add to their win on Saturday.

Bury opened their account in the new League One season on the weekend with a 1-0 home win over Walsall which would have no doubt pleased manager Lee Clark and the Shakers’ fans, as well as showing that Bury can get three points without former striker James Vaughan!

Interestingly, Vaughan moved to Championship side, Sunderland, and is likely to face his former team-mates this evening, in what could be an interesting reception for the striker here! Bury have picked up Beckford from Preston North End, and Ajose on loan from Charlton Athletic.

Sunderland started their new season in the Championship with a 1-1 draw as they shared the spoils with Derby County at the Stadium of Light last Friday, with former Bournemouth striker, Lewis Grabban scoring the goal for the Black Cats.

Sunderland boss, Simon Grayson, may hand a debut to keeper Ruiter when they make their way to Bury for this first round clash, while Vaughan and Grabban may continue up front after their positive start last time out.

However, Rodwell, Whatmore, McNair and Love are all ruled out through injury. With promotion back up to the Premier League a major priority, this may see Sunderland make some changes as Grayson re-shuffles his pack.

The early rounds of the League Cup is not always the top of the list for Championship and Premier League sides, so Bury may just have a chance of pulling off an upset here, but I think both teams will score here.
