Overall, Cagliari have lost five of their last seven matches in the Italian top flight which has resulted in the hosts still remaining in the lower half of the division despite possessing a pretty solid home record so far this season, but we’ll come back to that a little later.
Recent defeats to Udinese, Sassuolo, Atalanta, AC Milan and Sampdoria have prevented Cagliari from lifting themselves up into the top half of Serie A, and although they’ve recently recorded a 2-1 home win over Parma, the recent losses have done the damage in that regard.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom as a deeper look into these recent losses show that only one of these was inflicted upon Cagliari at their Sardegna Arena, and indeed, the hosts have lost just twice at home all season to date amidst an overall record of 4-6-2 14/11.
The two defeats have been against Napoli and Atalanta, both of whom hold superior away records compared to Inter Milan, while Cagliari haven’t been beaten by 2 goals or more at home so far in this campaign.

Inter Milan sit in 3rd place in Serie A although it’s looking increasingly likely that the visitors will have to make do with ‘just’ a top four finish in the Italian top flight as they find themselves nine points adrift of 2nd placed Napoli.
However, there’s still work to do for Inter Milan as they possess just a three point cushion ahead of 5th placed Roma, so they can’t afford to slip up with a defeat away at Cagliari on Friday night, although Roma have a tough fixture coming up against Lazio this weekend.
Inter Milan are also through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League following a convincing 5-0 win on aggregate against Austrian club Rapid Vienna, but the visitors could be involved in the premier European competition next season if they hold their nerve until the end of this season.
This involves continuing to pick up points on the road, and Inter Milan haven’t had it all their own way so far this season on their travels as their away record of 6-3-4 18/14 indicates; the visitors have shown some improvement in recent times as they’ve lost just once in their last five away matches which was a 1-0 loss at Torino, and wins at Empoli and Parma will have steadied the nerves somewhat.

Cagliari are a stubborn outfit at home and although Inter Milan should win this, there’s no guarantees and I’m expecting Cagliari to keep it close here.
