Cambuur Preview – Will Cambuur take their league form into the KNVB Beker and eliminate one of the top clubs in the Netherlands?

The priority for Cambuur this season is to win promotion to the Eredivisie. Currently top of the table, they are three points clear of second place Ajax II but essentially six ahead of their nearest rivals for promotion considering the young Ajax team are unable to play in the same division as the senior team. The defeat to that rival at the weekend was their first loss 17 matches in league and cup. It’s been a terrific run since a less than impressive beginning to the campaign and if they can continue a similar level in the second half of the season they will almost certainly be playing t0p-flight football in 2020/21.

Included in the their recent good run was a 5-0 away win away to GOES of the fourth division. It was a game they would very much expect to win and they did so in style. There’s no doubting who has been one of Cambuur’s key players this season with veteran striker Robert Muhren goals in the league already. Muhren is playing at a much lower level than of late and his quality is shining through. He will want to impress against Feyenoord having spent time with their Rotterdam rivals, Sparta, earlier in his career.

Feyenoord Preview – Can Feyenoord continue their recent resurgence to make progress in the Dutch Cup?

Jaap Stam’s time as Feyenoord boss was short-lived following a dismal start to the season. Stam has been replaced by the vastly experienced Dick Advocaat who has been given a remit of improving the fortunes of the Rotterdam club. It’s been a more positive spell since the change in manager but they did fall out of the Europa League last weekend, going down 3-2 to Porto. Domestically it’s going in the right direction as indicated by Feyenoord’s 3-1 win against PSV last weekend. A match that saw the end of Mark van Bommel’s reign in Eindhoven. The win moves Feyenoord into the top six and four points behind Willem II in third. As they are 13 points adrift of the top two it’s unlikely they can go any higher than third this season.

Dutch Internationalist Steven Berghuis has been in excellent form all season. He is the club’s top scorer with 12 goals, including scoring a hat-trick against PSV last time out. Whether Advocaat starts Berghuis for this one or saves him for an important league game away to Utrecht at the weekend remains to be seen. There’s no doubt he would be a huge threat for Cambuur on Thursday.

Key-Facts – Cambuur vs Feyenoord

  • Cambuur are going great guns in the Dutch second division and will be confident of troubling Feyenoord, especially at home
  • Feyenood have turned to Dick Advocaat with a view to turning their season around and they will be hoping to avoid an upset in this one
  • The Rotterdam club have won the Dutch Cup in 2016 and 2018 and it’s now their only chance of success this season

Cambuur vs Feyenoord Betting Advice

This had the look of a very attractive tie when the draw was made and that’s even more the case now with Feyenoord hitting some better form. Their hosts would have preferred to be playing them a couple of months ago but they themselves are enjoying fine season and looking to make life as difficult as possible for the Eredivisie outfit.

Cambuur have lost just one home game all season. Feyenoord, on the other hand, have been vulnerable on their travels. There’s a very live chance of a shock here but Advocaat will be wise to that. It’s the only chance of silerware for the away team which should see them fully motivated. Seven of Cambuur’s nine home games have had at least three goals in them. With Feyenoord beginning to find some form take them to win the game and for there to be three or more goals in the game.
