This has just started going the wrong direction for the Raiders. A narrow defeat last weekend against the table-topping Parramatta Eels saw the Raiders slip to back to back losses.

But are the St George Illawarra Dragons positioned to go and take a win against them?

They failed to make it three wins on the bounce last weekend as the Sydney Roosters got the better of them.

Canberra Raiders Preview – Can Canberra bounce back?

The Raiders will have been really disappointed with their last two games. Those were defeats against the Sea Eagles and then the Eels last weekend.

It was a soul-crushing 24-25 loss that the Raiders took against the Eels last week after having battled back to force a golden point situation.

They are a much better side than those results have shown, but they need to show a bit of character now and strike up a win.

Canberra and the Dragons have traded wins in their last two meetings, the Raiders taking a 36-14 success on their last clash.

There is a vast discrepancy between the form of the two respective defences here, in favour of Canberra.

The Raiders have conceded an average of 13 points for game, while the Dragons are up at 20 per game.

This one is being played at the GIO Stadium and there will be a small crowd in attendance which has been permitted for this one.

Canberra have won twice in their last five fixtures played at the GIO Stadium.

There are a couple of notable team news points. Lock Joe Tapine will come back into the team while halfback Geroge Williams gets in the line up despite breaking his nose last weekend.

St George Illawarra Dragons Preview – Can the Dragons deliver again against the Raiders?

The Dragons have won five of their last seven games against the Raiders, so that is something confident that they can take forward.

St George lost last weekend, going down against the Roosters, but they actually put on a good performance.

They looked far more of a confident side having won their two previous games, than they did at the start of the season.

The Dragons have only won 4 of 16 previous trips to the GIO Stadium, which is a really poor return.

It is a W2 L5 record that the Dragons have put on the board this season, but their performances has been improving.

The two wins that they have recorded have been against the Cowboys and Titans, who are down in the bottom half of the table with the Dragons.

St George Illawarra Dragons are set to send out the same side again, with no fitness issues anywhere right now.

The concern for the Dragons will be the points that they are giving up in games.

With a nod to their inferior defensive record against that of the Raiders this season, things need to be put into context.

The Dragons have been better recently, only conceding at least 20 points in two of their last five played.

They may be able to keep this tight, if not come up with the win and a Dragons +10 handicap is at 10/11* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:41 GMT on Thursday, 2nd July)

The average margin of defeat of the St George Illawarra Dragons is 13.5 this season.

Canberra Raiders vs St George Illawarra Dragons Betting Advice

A very interesting game this one is going to be. Last year’s runners up the Canberra Raiders have lost three of their last four. They showed some grit last weekend against the Eels however.

They pushed the leaders close but came up short. But they should be collecting the victory here in Canberra with a small crowd standing behind them.

Key Facts – Canberra Raiders vs St George Illawarra Dragons Betting Tip

  • Canberra Raiders have lost their last two
  • Canberra Raiders have only won 2 of their last five home games
  • St George Illawarra Dragons have won 5 of their last 7 against the Raiders

St George played well last weekend but couldn’t find enough against the Roosters. But still, with a bit of renewed confidence in their game we would back them to keep the margins down.

So it is a Raiders win that we would look for but would stick with the +10 on the Dragons.
