After recording back-to-back wins for the first time in this season’s Premier League, Cardiff failed to make it three in a row when they were soundly beaten by Watford 5-1 at home on the weekend. Cardiff had previously put together vital wins against Bournemouth and Southampton which had lifted them out of the bottom three, but they have another chance at home against Everton on Tuesday night.
Things are very tight near the bottom of the division with the avoidance of the third relegation spot being a battle between Southampton, Cardiff City, Brighton and Newcastle United, but Cardiff could leapfrog Brighton into 16th place with a win here.
However, although Cardiff City have picked up a point in a 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town and beat Bournemouth 2-0, The Bluebirds have also lost three of their last five home matches with defeats to Manchester United, Tottenham and Watford.
Cardiff’s home record stands at 5-2-7 16/28 which is actually a pretty reasonable record considering their league position, but I do wonder if the hosts are now starting to run out of gas.

Everton occupy a disappointing mid-table position as The Toffees have lost four of their last five matches overall in the Premier League following defeats to Southampton, Wolves, Manchester City and Watford.
Everton’s position of being tagged the ‘best of the rest’ has long gone with the likes of Watford and Wolves battling it out after the top six, and although Everton sit one league position and one point above Leicester City, who recently sacked manager Claude Puel after a string of defeats, another loss for Everton at Cardiff City could see Marco Silva under extreme pressure to keep his job.
Everton possess a pretty ordinary looking away record of 3-3-7 15/18 which includes just two wins from their last nine matches on the road, with wins at Burnley and Huddersfield Town, but recent defeats at Brighton, Southampton and Watford – all games that Everton should have got something from, have been particularly damaging.
That said, Everton have had a 3-week break in which to work upon various tactics while Cardiff have had three days in which to prepare.
