Valerien Ismael will be hoping to keep up his 100% record as Barnsley boss when the Tykes travel to the Cardiff City Stadium this Tuesday to take on Cardiff City in EFL Championship action. The Bluebirds lost on the road for the first time this term last weekend and have yet to win on home soil this season. This is a big game for both teams, but who will come out on top in the capital of Wales? Check out our betting preview.

Cardiff City Preview – Will the Bluebirds seal first home win?

Neil Harris’ Cardiff City have had a poor season so far. The Bluebirds may have finished in fifth place last term, but the Welsh team are languishing down in 17th spot at the moment. City have picked up just two wins, drawing four and losing three of the other seven.

After three successive 1-1 draws with Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Derby County, Cardiff were beaten 3-2 in a thriller at Queens Park Rangers last weekend. The Bluebirds were 2-0 at the break at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, but two Joe Ralls goals looked to have rescued a point. However, Dominic Ball’s stunning 90th-minute strike snatched the points for QPR.

Our betting prediction:
Draw & both teams to score
7/2

Harris’ boys have yet to taste victory on their own patch this season. Cardiff have lost two and drawn two, with both of those draws coming in the last two. City could really do with maximum points on home turf in midweek.

Barnsley Preview – Can Ismael maintain 100% winning start?

Since taking over at Oakwell, Valerien Ismael has guided Barnsley to back-to-back wins. The Tykes failed to win any of their opening seven, but they have looked a completely different team under the Frenchman.

In his first game in charge, Barnsley thumped QPR at Oakwell, with a Cauley Woodrow penalty, a Conor Chaplin strike and an own goal sealing the comfortable win. Barnsley then shocked Watford last weekend, as an early Alex Mowatt goal gave the Tykes a 1-0 victory over the Hornets.

Since losing 2-1 at Middlesbrough a month ago, Barnsley are unbeaten in five, drawing three on the spin before their recent back-to-back wins. Can the Yorkshire side cause another upset on Tuesday night?

Cardiff City vs Barnsley Betting Advice

Cardiff did the double over Barnsley last season, winning 3-2 in South Wales and 2-0 at Oakwell. In fact, the Welsh team have an excellent recent record in this fixture, winning each of the last four. The Tykes have beaten Cardiff just once in the last ten years.

Key Facts – Cardiff City vs Barnsley Betting Tip

  • Barnsley have won just one of the previous 12 meetings, with the Bluebirds winning eight and drawing the other three
  • Cardiff have yet to win at home this season
  • New Barnsley boss Ismael has won both matches in charge

Cardiff finished fifth and made the play-offs last season, but the Welsh outfit look nowhere near a top-six side at the moment. Even though last Saturday’s defeat at QPR was their first reverse in six, the Bluebirds have struggled for consistency so far.

The last two at the Cardiff City Stadium have ended in 1-1 draws, and we can see something similar in the Welsh capital on Tuesday. The 1-1 tie in this one is available at 11/2.

All three of Kieffer Moore’s goals for Cardiff have come on the road. Back the Wales international to score his first home goal for the Bluebirds on Tuesday.
