Neil Harris’ Cardiff City get their 2020-21 EFL Championship campaign up and running this Saturday with a game against Garry Monk’s Sheffield Wednesday at the Cardiff City Stadium. The Bluebirds, who finished fifth last term, will fancy their chances of getting maximum points on home turf on the opening weekend. Take a look at the latest betting odds and tips.

Cardiff City Preview – Bluebirds to fly to three points?

Cardiff City were relegated from the 2018-19 Premier League season, and the Bluebirds made a poor start to their 2019-20 campaign back in the Championship under Neil Warnock, who is now in charge at Middlesbrough.

Warnock left the club back in November, with former Millwall boss Neil Harris taking over in the Welsh capital. It took time for Harris to settle into his new surroundings in South Wales, but when he did, he turned Cardiff into a tough team to beat in 2020.

Our betting prediction:
Cardiff to win both halves

Cardiff were excellent after football resumed back in June, winning six times to secure a place in the Championship play-offs. Unfortunately for the Welsh side, their journey came to an end against eventual play-off winners Fulham in the semis.

Cardiff, who have been promoted to the Premier League twice, are one of the favourites for promotion this term. However, they started their season with a poor 3-0 EFL Cup defeat at Northampton Town last weekend. Can the club from the capital of Wales return to winning ways this Saturday?

Sheffield Wednesday Preview – Owls to leave South Wales with zero points?

If their appeal is unsuccessful, Sheffield Wednesday will receive a 12-point penalty for breaching the Football League’s rules over a three-year period. The Championship is hard enough these days, so the penalty will not help the Owls’ cause one bit.

Back to matters on the pitch, Wednesday started their season with a penalty shootout victory over Walsall in the first round of the EFL Cup last Saturday. After a 0-0 draw in normal time, Garry Monk’s men went on to win 4-2 on penalties.

Despite a good first half to the season, Wednesday finished down in a lowly 16th place last term. They really struggled after the turn of the year, winning just four league fixtures in 2020. Overall, the Owls were beaten 20 times in the Championship.

Cardiff City vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Advice

Wednesday may face an uphill struggle this season, with or without the points deduction. The Sheffield club could have done without a trip to the Cardiff City Stadium on the opening weekend. However, each of the last four meetings between the pair in the Welsh capital have ended in draws.

Key Facts – Cardiff City vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tip

  • Cardiff picked up four points from the two league meetings last season
  • Four of the last six Cardiff v Sheff Wed matches have ended in draws
  • The Bluebirds’ last home victory over the Owls came back in September 2014

In the last game between the two in December, goals from Robert Glatzel and Junior Hoilett helped Cardiff to a 2-1 victory at Hillsborough. We fancy the Bluebirds to get the better of the Owls this weekend, too.

Cardiff kept clean sheets in six of their last nine regular season wins last term. Have a punt on City to win to nil on Saturday at 12/5.
