France’s Caroline Garcia will be lining up against Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck in the quarter-finals of WTA Lyon. These two are the third and fifth seeds respectively, so this is a big duel. There could potentially be a semi-final place against 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin at stake.

Garcia finds her feet

Home talent Caroline Garcia had a tough time of things in the opening round of Lyon. She was up against Greet Minnen in the opening round and heavily dropped the second set. Garica just held her nerve better in the deciding set tie break to get through.

Then she faced Ysaline Bonaventure in the second round and Garcia was far more comfortable there, taking a straight-sets win. That’s two Belgian players she has bet so far and she now takes on another in Van Uytvanck in a fascinating contest.

Garcia, who reached a World Number 4 ranking in 2018 hasn’t been in great form in 2020. Arriving in Lyon she had lost four of her most recent five matches, the only success in that sequence happening in the opening round of the Australian Open.

Our betting prediction:
Uytvanck 2-1
4/1

So there are vulnerabilities there in her defence. Five of her last six matches this season, including her WTA Lyon efforts, have gone to three sets. So there is definitely a WTA tennis betting trend there to consider for this match.

Can Van Uytvanck level up against Garcia?

The one previous time that Garcia and Alison Van Uytvanck met was in last year’s Fed Cup. Garcia took the match in three sets, so again, there is a trend worth looking at for your tennis betting. There were signs ahead of WTA Lyon that Van Uytvacnk was starting to come into a little form.

By no means has the 25-year-old been hot with form this season, but a win over Kristina Mladenovic (who is the second seed for WTA Lyon) in Russia and three-set defeats against Katerina Siniakova and Elena Rybakina in subsequent events, showed that Van Uytvank was scrapping hard.

She opened in Lyon with a straight-sets win over Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa, dropping just four games. That put her through to face Viktoriya Tomova in the second round.

Van Uytvanck needed a tie-break in the deciding set to prevail. But she did show some grit there to pull back after having dropped the opening set.

Caroline Garcia vs Alison Van Uytvanck Betting Advice

Van Uytvank just looks to be on the rise in form a little bit and is worth consideration. The Belgian has scrapped out a lot of tough matches, not totally getting walked over even in defeat recently.

Key Facts – Caroline Garcia vs Alison Van Uytvanck Betting Tip

  • Caroline Garcia is 3rd seed at WTA Lyon
  • Caroline Garcia won the one previous meeting
  • Alison Van Uytvanck if 5th seed at WTA Lyon

Caroline Garcia is the higher seed here, however, she totally checked out in the second set of her opening match against Minnen and looked vulnerable. This is a tougher test for her than that, and we see enough in her opponent to take the win. Van Uuytvanck 2-1.
