Celta Vigo Preview – Will Celta end a run of seven games without a win to keep alive their hopes of a top six finish?
Edouardo Coudet was something of a surprise appointment to take over at Celta last November considering the Argentine had never coached in Europe. Coudet did play for Celta for a brief spell in 2002 but he will be hoping to have a longer, more sustained time in charge as manager – as it would mean he is successful. He could barely have wished for a better start as his team won five and drew one in his first seven league games.
Celta have dipped of late with no wins in their last six but they have still shown quality – with the latest of three consecutive draws coming away to runaway leaders Atletico Madrid on Monday.
Elche Preview – Can Elche get a first away win in the league since October as they battle to avoid the drop?
Rewind back to the 23rd of October when Elche beat Valencia 2-1 to pick up their third win of the season (after five matches) and were sitting pretty on their return to La Liga. It would be hard to imagine that it would be their last win in the league. Now, 15 matches later, and Elche have completely forgotten what that winning feeling is like in the top division. It should be noted that they have drawn eight of those games but the lack of victories means Elche have dropped into the bottom three.
It’s incredibly tight, however, as they are only two points from safety and only six points separate them from 12th place.

The major issue for Elches is finding the back of the net. Their return of 18 goals is the second lowest in La Liga whilst no teams has scored fewer on their travels (eight in nine games). Goals are also not evenly shared out amongst the team either, with three players responsible for two thirds of them.
Elche have won two away games so far this season – beating Eibar and Alaves in September and October, respectively.
Celta Vigo vs Elche Betting Advice
The teams played out a 1-1 draw earlier this season and whilst Celta’s form definitely picked up, both are finding three points hard to come by heading into the return fixture. If there is to be a winner in the match then it’s likely going to be by a narrow margin – if the trends of the fixture is anything to go by.
The last six games between the two have seen just nine goals scored and Celta have never beaten Elche at home in La Liga.
Key Facts – Celta Vigo vs Elche Betting Tip
- Celta had won four straight home matches but have taken just a point from their last two
- Elche remain only two points from safety but have not won any of their last 15 in La Liga
- Each of the last six meetings between these teams have ended with two or fewer goals
Despite history being against them somewhat, this does look like an ideal opportunity Celta to get back to winning ways. They were impressive in the draw against Atletico Madrid and you sense a win is coming.
