Celta have been able to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three in recent and weeks and will be hoping to do so further when they meet Real Betis on Saturday.

Celta Vigo Preview – Can Celta bounce back from midweek thumping to increase their chances of survival?

Following a very good return to football for Cetla it appeared that their La Liga status was definitely going to be preserved for yet another season. Having been in and around the bottom three throughout the campaign, Celta were able to take eight points from four games following a defeat to Villareal in their first game back. That run, combined with the teams below them failing rather miserably, meant they opened an eight point gap.

Some doubt has returned in the last few days, however, after a surprising and extremely traumatic 5-1 loss away to Mallorca in midweek. The Islanders sit directly below them in the table and will feel they can claw more of that five point margin back.

It’s a game that they have to put behind them quickly with five matches remaining. Before what they hope will be a mishap, Celta had won away to Real Sociedad and an impressive 6-0 win at home to Alaves. Factor in the battling draw with Barcelona and there is still plenty to be positive about.

Celta can also take encouragement from the fact they have won three of their last five, losing just once.

Real Betis Preview – Are Betis capable of halting their slide down the table with a victory here?

This season can’t end fast enough for Real Betis who are going from bad to worse. The change of coach following to Athletic Club last month has done little to change their fortunes. Granted, Alexis Trujillo did get a win over bottom of the table Espanyol in his first match in charge, but there have been two very underwhelming defeats since. A 4-2 loss away to Levante and 2-0 reverse last time out at home to Villareal are indications of how disappointing this campaign has been.

Fortunately Betis are eight points clear of the relegation zone and in no real threat. Although that’s down to the form of the teams below them more than anything else.

In a season where there was so much hope and optimism, particularly with the signings that were made last summer, a bottom-half finish was well below expectations for everybody at the club.

The biggest issue for Betis this season has been in defence where they have been simply terrible. Mallorca are the only team to have conceded more goals. Whilst it’s commendable they wish to play and attacking style of play, there has to be a balance and it’s clear that they have been unable to find that.

Celta Vigo vs Real Betis Betting Advice

Whilst it’s Celta who are sitting just outside the relegation zone, it’s Betis’ form which has been that of a team struggling at the foot of the table. The break has done wonders for Celta and although the blip on Wednesday has brought them back into the conversation, a win on Saturday would get them to within touching distance of safety.

It’s difficult to suggest that this game is meaningless for Betis as they will be keen to pick up points in their remaining matches, but it is very much a case of playing for pride.

Key Facts – Celta Vigo vs Real Betis Betting Tip

  • The gap between Celta and the bottom three sits at five points after their 5-1 loss at Mallorca
  • It’s one win in six matches for Real Betis since the resumption of La Liga
  • Betis have won the last two meetings against Celta, including a 2-1 victory earlier this season

Had Celta not been beaten so heavily on Wednesday then I think they would be odds on in this game. As it is, the fact they are odds against at home to a team who have been terrible in the main since the resumption, I’m happy to side with the hosts.
