Scottish Premiership title winners, Celtic, will be looking to capture the ‘double’ on Saturday afternoon when they line up against Aberdeen in the Scottish FA Cup final at Hampden Park as they look to continue their absolute dominance on the domestic scene.
The Scottish top flight is ridiculously one-sided in favour of Celtic right now, and they asserted their authority once more in the first phase when they secured the title by a margin of 24 points ahead of today’s opponents, Aberdeen.
The Hoops now turn their attentions to the FA Cup where they’ve progressed to the final with relative ease as they’ve registered wins over Albion Rovers 3-0, Inverness CT 6-0, St Mirren 4-1 and arch-rivals Rangers 2-0. This of course means they’ve scored 15 goals for and conceded just 1 in reply on their cup run to date.
Aberdeen finished runners-up by some margin to Celtic at the end of the first phase, and following Rangers’ exile from the top flight a few seasons ago, The Dons have become the closest rivals to Celtic for top spot on the Scottish scene.
But the fact remains, they’re still a long way off from making a serious title challenge over The Hoops, but they come into this FA Cup final in positive form following back-to-back Premiership wins over Rangers 2-1 and a thumping 6-0 victory over Partick Thistle (both of which were away from home).
The head-to-head history between these two teams is, as expected, heavily in Celtic’s favour as they’ve won the last six encounters between the two sides, and I just can’t see this trend changing here today as Brendan Rodgers’s side chase the double.
