There’s further action north of the border on Wednesday night in the Scottish Premiership, with Celtic no doubt keen to keep the old foe, Rangers, at arms length in the race for the domestic league title.
Celtic will be more than aware that Rangers occupy second place ahead of their visit to St Johnstone, and tonight’s hosts will be wanting to take all three points here to maintain their comfortable nine point margin at the top of the division. Celtic returned to winning ways on the weekend when they registered a 2-0 win away at Aberdeen, and they’ll be looking to post back-to-back wins following a couple of recent stutters.
Defeat away at Kilmarnock followed by just a point at home against St Johnstone may have given Rangers temporary hope of chasing them down, but The Bhoys slammed the door shut with the win at The Dons. Nevertheless, Celtic will want to further improve their home record which stands at 9-5-0 30/8 tonight.
Dundee sit in ninth place and find themselves eight points adrift of the Championship round pack ahead of their tough trip to Celtic Park on Wednesday night, which may have been made even harder given they’ve lost three of their last four in the Scottish Premiership.
Defeats to Ross County, Kilmarnock and Motherwell has resulted in The Dee remaining in the Relegation round half of the division, and their hopes of grabbing all three points on Wednesday night must be slim if they’re honest.
Although Dundee’s results away from home have seen a definite improvement since early December (they’d lost six of their first seven matches of the season on the road), and an improved away record of 4-2-8 16/23, 6 of their 8 defeats away from home have been to clubs sitting in the top six.
