Celtic’s unbeaten season in the Scottish Premiership came crashing down around them on Sunday when they were dealt a crushing 4-0 defeat away at Hearts, and they’ll now return to Celtic Park for Wednesday night’s clash with Partick Thistle looking to set the record straight.
That defeat is certainly one of the biggest shocks in the Scottish top flight for some time as Celtic have ruled the roost for quite a few seasons, and even more so in recent times with Rangers being demoted. The Hoops now have Aberdeen breathing down their necks and just two points behind them in the race for the title, so Celtic should be up for this one and record a third win on the trot on home turf.
The hosts possess a solid home record of 5-3-0 21/7 having won their last two against Motherwell and Hamilton Academicals, and with bottom club Partick Thistle coming to town, Brendan Rodgers will demand nothing less than three points here.
Onto Partick Thistle and they sit bottom of the Scottish Premiership two points adrift of Ross County, having lost three of their last four in the top flight. A 3-2 home win over Motherwell hasn’t been enough to offset recent defeats to Hibernian, Kilmarnock and Dundee, and a trip to Celtic who are licking their wounds after Sunday’s disaster, could be ominous.
Thistle will certainly fear a back-lash from The Hoops although they did manage to nick a point off them in their last visit to Celtic Park as they held the Scottish champions to a 1-1 draw. However, 14 league matches without a win away from home tells its own story, while their away record so far this season also stands at a poor 0-3-6 4/20.
5 of Partick Thistle’s 9 away matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals, and although the visitors have failed to score in five away trips so far, I’m confident that Celtic can get the job done all by themselves.
