Celtic breezed to another Scottish Premiership title at the end of last season as they secured champions spot by a massive margin of 24 points ahead of their nearest rivals, Aberdeen. Celtic captured the domestic treble by also adding the League Cup and the Scottish Cup to their trophy cabinet.
Celtic made it to the group stages of the Champions League last season as they joined Group C along with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Moenchengladbach, but they finished rock bottom of the group without registering a win.
But Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, has re-emerged as a power figure for the famous Scottish club, and his carefully assembled side now have a new edge to their playing style. They’ll be a hard unit to break down, especially at their Celtic Park ground.
Visitors Rosenborg will head into this third qualifying round in pretty confident mood as they currently lead the Norwegian Eliteserien by five points ahead of second placed Sarpsborg. They made it through the previous round unscathed as they saw off plucky Irish outfit, Dundalk, but they had to wait until extra time in the second leg to secure their passage into this third qualifying round.
Rosenborg have posted mixed results in this competition in recent times as they’ve registered wins over Norrkoping, APOEL and Dundalk, but all of these wins have been achieved at their Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim.
But Rosenborg’s record on the road has been disappointing at best, poor at worst, as they’ve lost five of their last six on their travels at this level.
