Premiership at Betfred

Saturday afternoon marks the start of another Scottish Premiership season and our next preview features a clash between Celtic and St Johnstone as the betting tips continue at Celtic Park.

Celtic Prediction – Can Celtic continue momentum?

A ball hasn’t been kicked in anger yet in the Scottish top flight, but Celtic are already building momentum on the European stage.

The reigning Scottish champions finished a comfortable 9 points clear of their ‘auld rivals’ Rangers at the conclusion of the second phase of last season.

This therefore saw Celtic qualify for the Champions League and they’ve started out of the blocks in explosive fashion.

A 5-2 aggregate win over Bosnia-Herzegovina outfit, Sarajevo in the 1st qualifying round was followed by a resounding 7-0 aggregate victory against Estonian club, Nomme Kalju.

12 goals in four Champions League ties to date is a great start to their new season for Neil Lennon’s boys and they’ll be keen to keep their momentum going this Saturday.

With just 1 defeat out of their last 18 league matches of last season, Celtic look a formidable force before the domestic season has even started.

In addition, Celtic’s results at home have been exemplary – they’re currently unbeaten from their last 19 matches at Celtic Park in the Premiership.

To round things off, Celtic have won the last 5 meetings on the trot against today’s opponents, St Johnstone, and the hosts look set for further success here.

St Johnstone Prediction – Can St Johnstone halt Celtic’s dominance?

If the start of this season’s results are anything to go by, early indications suggest that St Johnstone could be facing a long season in the Premiership this term.

The visitors failed miserably in the group stages of the League Cup which resulted in St Johnstone finishing in a disappointing 4th place in Group B.

In a group that contained the likes of Ross County, Forfar Athletic, Montrose and Brechin City, St Johnstone took just 3 points from their 4 group matches.

A 4-0 home win over Brechin City was the only highlight in a miserable cup campaign which also saw them lose to Montrose, Ross County and Forfar Athletic.

The end of last season ended with St Johnstone failing to make the cut for the top six and the Championship Round as they finished in 7th place.

However, the visitors did salvage some pride by finishing top of the Relegation Group, edging out runners-up Motherwell by 1 point.

St Johnstone’s pre-season has been a disaster by comparison to that of Celtic’s though, and they’ll do well to avoid a heavy defeat at Celtic Park I fancy.

Key-Facts – Celtic v St Johnstone

  • Celtic are unbeaten in their last 19 matches at Celtic Park in the Premiership
  • St Johnstone lost 3 of their 4 League Cup matches this season
  • Celtic have won the last 5 meetings on the trot against St Johnstone

Betting Tips Verdict

Celtic already look in ominous form and their dominance over St Johnstone should continue with ease this Saturday.
