Celtic Preview – Will Celtic follow up their strong first leg performance and ease into the next round?

It may not have been an ideal start to life in Scotland for Ange Postecoglou following an exit in the second round of Champions League qualification and defeat to Hearts in Celtic’s opening Premiership game of the season, but there has been a lot of good will for the Australian and the last two games have been much more encouraging. A 4-2 win away to their Czech opponents in the first leg of this tie was followed up by a thumping 6-0 win at home to Dundee on Sunday.

Celtic’s attacking play in both matches was excellent. Lapses in concentration and some poor decisions in defence meant they put themselves under more pressure than they should have been last week but they were the dominant team and are well placed to go through and face AZ Alkmaar in the playoff round.

Celtic 3-1 Correct Score
(odds taken 2000 GMT, Tuesday 10 August)

New signing Kyogo Furuhashi is spearheading this new look Celtic attack. The Japanese international scored a brilliant goal on his full debut before surpassing that with a hat-trick in the domestic win at the weekend. His movement and intelligence looks to be a real asset.

Further signings are expected in the coming days and weeks as Celtic build for the challenges ahead but one of their new additions, James McCarthy, will have to wait a little longer for his debut as he attempts to enhance his fitness.

Jablonec Preview – Can Jablonec find a way back into this tie and keep their group stages hopes alive?

Jablonec enjoyed an excellent season last time around finishing behind Slavia and Sparta Prague in the Czech top-flight. They continue to be one of the highest-ranked teams in the division but have been unable to make any sort of impact in European football.

They’ve qualified for Europe in each of the last four seasons but have only made the group stages on one occasion during that spell. And that was automatic rather than having to negotiate the qualification rounds. Jablonec finished bottom of their group on five points back in 2018.

At the halfway of this stage it looks probable that Jablonec will have to settle for a playoff tie to reach the new Europa Conference League unless they can pull off a famous comeback win in the East End of Glasgow.

Their start to the domestic season has been inconsistent as well with a win, loss and draw from their first three games. They’ve also conceded five goals in their last two domestic games meaning nine goals in three across all competitions. If they are to have any sort of chance of progressing from this tie then they’ll have to be a lot better defensively.

Celtic vs Jablonec Betting Advice

With the away goals rule now no longer in place the four that Celtic got in the Czech Republic last week may not be as fatal for Jablonec as it would have done previously. That said, the Scottish side were far superior in the first meeting and their opponents were fortunate that the margin of defeat was just two goals.

Whoever does progresses will face a difficult task in the playoff round with AZ waiting for them. They finished third in the Eredivisie last season.

Key Facts – Celtic vs Jablonec Betting Tip

  • New signings Kyogo and Liel Abada were on target in the first leg as Celtic took control of the tie
  • Jablonec have conceded nine goals in their last three games across all competitions
  • The winner of this tie will progress to face AZ in the playoff round of Europa League qualification

Celtic look like they are going to be entertaining this season under Ange Postecoglou. Four of their five games so far have seen both teams scoring and they have hit 10 of their own in the last two. Back them to win with both teams scoring once again.
