Celtic Preview – Can Celtic make it eight league wins in a row and take another step towards the title?

It remains to be seen how important Kris Ajer’s late winner for Celtic away to Aberdeen last week proves to be but it felt significant at the time. The victory keeps the Hoops 10 points clear of Rangers in second having played a game more and is another match ticked off for Neil Lennon and his players. The conditions, an aggressive and direct Dons team and not being at their best had Celtic in danger of dropping their first league points of 2020.
Since losing to Rangers in the final game of last year it’s been an incredible response from Lennon’s team. Seven straight wins and scoring at least three goals in six of those is superb form.

There’s now 11 games to play for Celtic in this league campaign but they also have commitments in two cup competitions which will mean a heavy schedule for at least the next month. This is a squad used to that, of course, but Thursday’s 1-1 draw away to Copenhagen may have come at a cost with captain Scott Brown going off injured. His influence is hugely important but likely to miss at least a couple of matches.
Celtic face the return leg of that match on Thursday as they look to progress to the last-16 of the Europa League.

Kilmarnock Preview – Will Killie bounce back from agonising cup defeat to surprise champions?

I noted in my preview of Kilmarnock’s Scottish Cup replay against Aberdeen in midweek that the Ayrshire club have a terrible record against that opponent. For much of the game it looked like Alex Dyer’s men would end their Aberdeen jinx only to concede an equaliser in the last minute of the 90 minutes and then to lose two goals in the closing stages of extra time, losing 4-3. It was an incredible way to go out the Scottish Cup and Dyer now has to get his players ready for their visit to Glasgow.

It now means Killie have not beaten Aberdeen at home in their last 16 attempts. Their worst run against any team.

The sole objective for Kilmarnock now is to finish in the top six. Those hopes took a blow last weekend when losing 2-1 at home to Hibernian – the team that sits directly above them in sixth spot and are now four points clear. Hibs play at home to Livingston on Saturday meaning Killie could well be seven points adrift with just five matches left before the split after this weekend’s game.

With little expectation on them this could well be the best game for Kilmarnock following their midweek disappointment.

Celtic vs Kilmarnock Betting Advice

The two previous meetings between Celtic and Kilmarnock this season have went the way of the Glasgow club. Both matches ending 3-1. You only have to look at the betting to see that Celtic are once again heavily fancied to get the win on Sunday. The fact they have played on Thursday is negated somewhat because Kilmarnock were taken to extra-time the night before also as the hosts have a much bigger squad at their disposal.

Key Facts – Celtic vs Kilmarnock Betting Tip

  • Celtic have maximum points since the winter break, scoring 24 goals in seven matches
  • Kilmarnock have already defeated Rangers this month and are looking to beat the other big Glasgow club
  • The sides met at Rugby Park last month when a dominant Celtic ran out 3-1 winners

The Champions have been excellent this year. Regardless of Scott Brown’s status for this game should have too much for their visitors. Twelve of the Hoops’ wins this season have come with at least four goals scored in them and this could well be another. At odds against it’s worth a bet.
