Celtic are on their worst run of form for years and simply have to get back to winning ways against an improve and well-organised St Johnstone team.

Celtic Preview – Can Celtic get all three points and avoid an unwanted record of five straight home defeats?

It’s something of a surprise that Neil Lennon is still in charge of Celtic following the recent troubles of the champions. Thursday’s 4-2 defeat away to AC Milan was their third straight loss in all competitions. They come into Sunday’s match with St Johnstone bidding to avoid a fifth straight loss at home and have won only two of their last 11 matches. Bearing in mind they have been knocked out of two European competitions and the League Cup then it’s clear to see all is not right.

More importantly in the eyes of the Celtic support is the fact they are 11 points behind Rangers in the league, albeit they do have two games in hand.

There is simply no margin for error for Celtic and Lennon as they prepare for their first league game of December. With Rangers at Ibrox to come at the start of the year, the Hoops need maximum points from their five league games this month, four of which are at home.
If Celtic are to get those wins then they’ll need to defend better. They’ve not had a clean sheet in their last six matches and conceded 27 goals in their last 11 games. It’s a diabolical record and there appears no improvement forthcoming.

St Johnstone Preview – Are St Johnstone capable of extending their good run and heaping more misery on their hosts?

As poor as campaign as it’s been for their opponents, St Johnstone will make the trip to Glasgow in buoyant mood having beaten Motherwell away last week to reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup and extend their unbeaten run to 10 games. In terms of their league form, they’ve drawn three and won two since losing at home to Celtic at the beginning of October. Callum Davidson will feel that return could be even better having surrendered a couple of leads in those draw games.

Nevertheless, it’s as good a run as the Saints have put together in years and with the issues their hosts are facing then there will be hope they can end their terrible run against Celtic.

St Johnstone’s seven away games in the league is a mixed back which is what you would expect from a team who are in and around mid-table. Two wins, three defeats and the one draw is not terrible by any means but any result here would boost it significantly.

Davidson will take belief from his team becoming more productive in attack with eight goals in their last four games. Performances have been good for a while but scoring goals was the issue, one they are improving on.

Celtic vs St Johnstone Betting Advice

It must be last-chance saloon for Neil Lennon which is not the sort of mentality you want from a team who are already struggling for form. Celtic’s record against St Johnstone would ordinarily inspire confidence as they go in search of their 10th straight win over the visitors and are unbeaten in their last 16. You have to go all the way back to 2015 for the last time St Johnstone won at Celtic Park.

That said, Celtic have never been in as poor form as they are at the moment with so much vulnerability within the team.

Key Facts – Celtic vs St Johnstone Betting Tip

  • Celtic have won only two of their last 11 games in all competitions
  • St Johnstone travel to Glasgow hoping to stretch their unbeaten run to 11 games
  • Celtic were victorious in Perth earlier this season but required two very late goals for the win

It would be impossible to have any confidence in backing Celtic just now whilst St Johnstone’s record here doesn’t inspire much either. Instead, I’m back this to be one full of goals. Eight of Celtic’s last 10 games have had four or more goals and that’s the bet here.
