Central Coast Mariners – Early leaders running out of steam?

The Mariners early momentum has undoubtedly faded. Having opened the campaign in blistering fashion with eight wins through the first eleven fixtures, Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to reigning A-League champions Sydney FC made it one win from the last seven (D4 L2). Relinquishing their stranglehold on first place in the standings in the process, with Melbourne City now a point in the clear.

Head coach Alan Stajcic won’t have been pleased with the manner in which his team dropped two priceless pointless last time. Central Coast (W9 D4 L5) held a 2-0 lead with little over 40 minutes gone, but were pegged back with seven minutes remaining – and it might have been worse had the visitors not had a goal chalked off for offside. A third draw across their last four matches here at Central Coast Stadium.

Wellington Phoenix and Western Sydney are the only sides to beat The Mariners on their own patch so far though. None of the past seven visitors to this ground have since managed that feat. This is largely due to Central Coast boasting a consistent and considerable goal threat in front of their own fans, netting on at least two occasions in six of the last seven said matches (W4 D3).

Brisbane Roar – The Roar in the ascendancy?

Back-to-back wins for Brisbane Roar (W5 D3 L8), closing to within a couple points of sixth-placed Wellington Phoenix who occupy the final berth for the end of season Final Series. Warren Moon’s side will have had the best part of nearly two weeks since their latest involvement, having not featured since 16 April when winning 2-1 away to Western Sydney – one of only two teams to have won at this venue all season.

The Roar boast an outstanding record in these parts, though. They’ve not been beaten on the road by Central Coast Mariners since a 1-0 defeat in March 2013, recording eight wins from ten subsequent visits to the Central Coast Stadium. Furthermore, their away form so far this season (W4 D2 L2) is among the best in the league, with only leaders Melbourne City (also 14) and Macarthur FC (15) accruing more away points.

In fact, four of their six victories overall have come away from home. Western United and Sydney FC, meanwhile, remain the only hosts to have prevented The Roar from finding the bet of the net. Japan midfielder Riku Danzaki, currently on loan from J1 League outfit Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, is certainly a player to keep an eye out for after netting the winner in each of their last two away outings.

Central Coast Vs Brisbane Roar Betting Advice

The Central Coast Stadium has been a happy hunting ground through the years for Brisbane Roar, and Warren Moon’s side could not have timed their return to form any better. Back-to-back wins, both by a 2-1 scoreline and both away from home, against Macarthur FC and Western Sydney comes as a time when Central Coast have taken two points from the last nine available having won only once in seven.

Central Coast Vs Brisbane Roar – Key Facts:

  • The Brisbane Roar, who won this fixture 1-0 last season courtesy of a late own goal, are currently on a ten game unbeaten run (W8 D2) away to Central Coast.

The Mariners scored at least twice in all but one of these seven. Meanwhile Brisbane Roar tend to deliver on their travels, scoring two or more in four of eight away matches.
