Charlton's solid home form to test Portsmouth

League One/Two Tips

CHARLTON ATHLETIC v PORTSMOUTH

Saturday 9th December 2017 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Football – England – League One Betting Tips

One of the fixtures that catches the eye in League One this weekend features two clubs that have designs on promotion back to the Championship this season, as Charlton Athletic take on Portsmouth at The Valley.

Charlton currently occupy the last play-off spot ahead of this weekend’s action, and they’ll be keen to consolidate their top six place by getting a result against Portsmouth who have been in reasonable form of late. The Addicks themselves have suffered just one defeat from their last 11 league matches, which was a 2-0 loss away at Scunthorpe United.

But it’s Charlton’s home form that has been the reason for their good start this season, with a solid record of  6-3-1 16/11 which includes recent wins over Doncaster Rovers, AFC Wimbledon and Rochdale, while the goals have been flowing at a steady pace.

Onto Portsmouth, and they’ve also made a promising start to their return to League One following promotion from League Two at the end of last season, as they sit in a creditable 8th place, just two league places below the play-off pack.

However, they’re six points adrift of Charlton before this afternoon’s clash, and whilst they’ve registered recent wins over Blackpool, Southend United and Plymouth Argyle, it’s generally been their form at Fratton Park that has helped them so far.

On the road, Portsmouth’s away record reads a far more modest  3-1-6 10/18, which includes three defeats from their last four on their travels with losses incurred at Doncaster Rovers, Blackburn Rovers and Peterborough United. Pompey have managed just two clean sheets away from home this season, and their defence looks set for further scrutiny at Charlton.

But Portsmouth made one of the best signings during the summer by bringing in former Bournemouth striker, Brett Pitman, and he’s scored 12 goals to date, so I recommend backing Charlton with the draw no bet option today.
