An extraordinary night unfolded at the DW Stadium in midweek when Wigan Athletic recorded an unbelievable 8-0 rout of hapless Hull City to lift The Latics up to 13th on the Championship ladder and condemned Hull City to a fourth league defeat on the trot.
With two matches of this season’s Championship campaign remaining, it’s not out of the question for Wigan to achieve a top half finish in the second tier, something that would have been unthinkable from even their most ardent of fans back in December as Wigan were propping up the Championship after their Boxing Day 1-1 draw at home with Derby County.
Sadly, Championship manager of the season is unlikely to be awarded to Latics manager, Paul Cook, but he certainly deserves recognition for successfully steering Wigan not only to safety but also possibly a top half finish.
An impressive run of 13 matches with just one defeat coming into this clash at Charlton proves Wigan are once again a force to be reckoned with and they’ll be hard to beat at The Valley too I daresay.
