Despite losing their last eight matches on the trot in Primeira Liga, Thursday night’s hosts Chaves will have been boosted by their recent 1-0 win over Varzim in the Portuguese Taca de Liga, and this will be a welcome boost for the hosts as they look to capture what would be only a second home win of this campaign.
It’s been a disappointing season for Chaves who currently occupy the bottom place in the Portuguese top flight with a home record of 1-1-4 6/8, but as they have also lost 7 of their 8 away matches to date, they’ll turn to this home match at their Estádio Municipal Eng. Manuel Branco Teixeira in order to attempt an escape act.
Recent results suggest it’ll be easier said than done having lost four of their last five at home with defeats to Sporting Braga, Desportivo Aves, Vitoria Guimaraes and Moreirense, but Chaves will take comfort from the fact that their visitors are also experiencing a hard time of it at the moment, as well as gaining a solid point in a 2-2 draw with Benfica.

Onto Feirense then, and the visitors have lost six of their last seven matches overall in the Primeira Liga which means they still occupy a place in the relegation zone and are just three points ahead of tonight’s hosts, Chaves.
Whilst Feirense have made themselves hard to beat this season on home turf at their Estádio Marcolino de Castro, they’ve had to endure a wretched time of it on their travels which is emphasised by their poor away record of 1-0-6 2/14 which includes the visitors losing their last six away matches on the trot.
To rub salt into their already gaping wounds, Feirense possess the worst goalscoring record away from home in the division, having failed to score 5 of their 7 away matches to date this term. In addition, they’ll be without their influential midfielder Tiago Silva (2 goals) who is suspended following a red card last time out.
